  • Seasons
    by Karin Taylor

/ Following are the lyrics to the song Turn, Turn, Turn This group was a huge influence on me as a little girl. I adored Judith Durham and her beautiful voice and spirit. I seemed to identify with her, and they were the first group I remember loving….other songs I loved from The Seekers which would take me into a beautiful place, “I’ll Never Find Another You”, “A World of Our Own”, “The Carnival Is Over”, “Morningtown Ride”, “Georgy Girl” ),and “Emerald City” Turn! Turn! Turn! / originally written by Pete Seeger / The Byrds (cover by The Seekers later) To everything (turn, turn, turn) / There is a season (turn, turn, turn) / And a time for every purpose, under heaven A time to be born, a time to die / A time to plant, a time to reap / A time to kill, a time to heal / A time to laugh, a time to weep To everything (turn, turn, turn) / There is a season (turn, turn, turn) / And a time for every purpose, under heaven A time to build up,a time to break down / A time to dance, a time to mourn / A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together To everything (turn, turn, turn) / There is a season (turn, turn, turn) / And a time for every purpose, under heaven A time of love, a time of hate / A time of war, a time of peace / A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing To everything (turn, turn, turn) / There is a season (turn, turn, turn) / And a time for every purpose, under heaven A time to gain, a time to lose / A time to rend, a time to sew / A time to love, a time to hate / A time for peace, I swear its not too late ‘Inspiration Series’ card by Karin Taylor “Seasons” is a mixed media production on thick water colour paper using ink pastel acrylic charcoal and texta, this portrayal is slightly different from the original piece in that I have added a blue background and highlights digitally. I was going to leave ‘Seasons’ open to your own interpretation, but painting this pic brought back memories of ‘The Seekers’ singing ‘There is a Season….turn, turn, turn…’. If you look closely, you can see the handwritten bible verse in tiny writing around the heads of the three :D Instead of leaving it open for interpretation, as I’m submitting this to The Healing Journey forum for a music/art competition, I will try to explain what the image depicts. This is my family and I am the hands, although the hands also represent God. The boat is a metaphor for our journey through life, and the waters are somewhat turbulent beneath, my family is being supported by myself at great cost sometimes to me personally and God is also supporting…if you like, imagine it is God’s hands super-imposed over my hands, so that I have strength to do what I am called to do, imparting a protective and nurturing boundary around my beautiful family…..making home a sanctuary, and a safe place, it is a labour of love and the weight of carrying and nurturing can be extremely heavy sometimes, but also very rewarding. There is my daughter, my son, and my husband in the boat…and the symbol of the greek cross on the vessel indicates that my family belong to Christ, and we will be Conquerors in this life and in the next, as we pass through all of life’s testing and difficulty, we will be made stronger and have our characters’ hewn and shaped, and wisdom will come as a result. Bonded together through adversity, trial, separation and togetherness, we will learn how to work together as a team to achieve harmony, joy and satisfaction…we will support one another when life’s journey becomes all too hard and we want to give up…then there will be one of us to support the one who is down….and this will be reciprocated later when the other is down….. instead of destroying one another, we will build each other up, and make each other stronger for the fight, for the journey….we will encourage one another all the more when we are failing and losing sight of our goals….we will not give up on one another…and even if the world is not interested in us, we will be interested in one another, and remember one another in prayer and thought and spirit and heart. We will cheer one another one to be courageous and to persevere, no matter life’s challenges. And through each of the seasons of life, birth, death, life, healing, laughing, dancing, moving, scattering, gathering, giving up, giving voice, mending, loving, hating, mourning…..we will stick together and support one another. The symbol is The Greek Cross which is complemented with the first and last letters of the Greek name for Jesus (IC), the first and last letters of the Greek word for Christ (XC) and the Greek word for Conqueror (NIKA). The short bars above the letters indicate that they are abbreviations. ‘There is a time for everything, / and a season for every activity under heaven: / a time to be born and a time to die, / a time to plant and a time to uproot, / a time to kill and a time to heal, / a time to tear down and a time to build, / a time to weep and a time to laugh, / a time to mourn and a time to dance, / a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, / a time to embrace and a time to refrain, / a time to search and a time to give up, / a time to keep and a time to throw away, / a time to tear and a time to mend, / a time to be silent and a time to speak, / a time to love and a time to hate, / a time for war and a time for peace. – Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

  • Watercolor on board Ive always liked mermaids and used to peer into the waves hoping Id see one gliding inside the curl or playing with the sea lions. The kelp beds off the northern Californai coast are dense and home to all sorts of creatures, and any self respecting mermaid is going to adorn herself with the abundant shells and seaweeds flourishing in her environment. Mermaids are often depicted as sensual sirens who look as if they havn’t a thought in their beautiful heads other than luring innocent sailors to their deaths. Just as mortals have many natures, so do the seafolk. This painting is of one such mermaid who has better things to do then lay about on the rocks calling out to passing sailors. She has a sense of wonder and amazement because all around her the sea is alive with beauty. She loves her environment and is busy making necklaces and jewelry with abandoned shells and seaweeds (she would never boot a living animal out of its home or take its life for anything so selfish as making a new necklace to impress her freinds with). Below is part of her song, something I wrote to accompany the painting. I am the soft sigh of surf caressing sand. / The fluid, curling wave breaking upon sharp coral. / I am the rhythmic chant of the tides, / my perfume the salt fragrance of damp seaweed and far away lands. Ocean goddess and sea nymph, I am a daughter of the waters. / My world is a place of ever shifting, fluid realities. / I am swelling, invisible currents of sparkling light and mysterious shadow. Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe ~ The Raven ~ 1845 Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary, / Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore, / While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, / As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. / `’Tis some visitor,’ I muttered, `tapping at my chamber door - / Only this, and nothing more.’

  • Kiss Away My Tears
    by Karin Taylor

    US$5.23–US$119.32

/ framed print (walnut frame with off white matt) I used a lot of media in this painting….. / chalk pastels, faber castelle black markers, charcoal, aquarelle watercolour crayons wet and dry, acrylics….on Canson canvas textured paper A2 size / it has been tweaked in photoshop to add brightness and contrast, etc. It’s from a series i’ve been wanting to get a start on for over a year, so this is the first one in the “Mothers and Daughters series”....I’m not sure if i’ll do more or not yet…i hope to….just has to be when the inspiration comes though…. I worked on this til 4am this morning …. oops! I hope you like it anyway, there is a sombre mood about it I guess, but not necessarily dark or negative….tears are healing, they really are….....

This for you Terez , my lovely daughter , she died when she was nearly 15 …… Thank you my friends your comments and support mean a lot to me. I had this pain bottled up in me so so long… but I knew and hoped with time passing things will change and turn out good… I was right, things started to unfold last week and I could just see and feel it. Working with this wonderful model just inspired me and brought all those feelings up from my heart, bones and my most inner part. I loved every minutes of it and it gave me a wonderful peace of mind Original oil painting on canvas, 100cmX100cm Thank you dear Anna-Marie for this beautiful song here: ANGEL TEARS / / by ANAISNAIS Gentle drops of Angel tears / Once more she drifts to sleep / Anaesthetised and full of hope / Of faith, of love, so deep A dark, dark mass looms in her form / A cancer cold and stark / They try to cut it all away / She’ll wake with mornings Lark They do the tests – they come to us / “There’s more” – is what they say / She begs us – not to make a fuss / She’s tired, asks us to pray She wakes in small hours and holds us tight / She says it’s time to leave / Be happy for her for she’ll be alright / Small tears stain her virgin cheeks Somewhere in the dark cold hours / She drew her final breath / Her brave yet quiet and Godly thoughts / Resound this Angels death I think of things she would have done / Watch as other children play / I work to help others as if she’d won / Life’s battle on that day I know she looks upon those souls / She’d smile and talk so calm / And in their fears she’ll comfort them / In loving Angel’s arms Our little daughter oh so young / Yet old in pain wise years / Reminds me daily of all kids past and / Gentle drops of Angel Tears http://www.redbubble.com/people/anaisnais
