  This is a response to Craig Goldsmith journal entitled Image Management System...

  This is a response to Craig Goldsmith journal entitled Image Management System . The wording got so long and complicated that I had to test the formatting. Which we have all learnt can only be done in our journals, not after posting (yet!). Sooo … I figured it might as well start and stop here: Just before I got hooked on RedBubble earlier this year, my wife and I rearranged our photography database. Here is the basic tree structure: /Year / Year,Month / Year,MonthDate / Label (Location,Item,etc) / ie / /2007 / 2007,Jan / 2007,2007Jul / Farm Each YEAR directory has every MONTH. Every MONTH has every DATE. Each DATE has its sub-directory’s of photograph types, plus one called FLICKR (for cropped/resized images reside, thereby leaving the original images untouched) which has a subdirectory entitled UPLOADED. But then I have an extra directory entitled “_Red_Bubble”, structured a little different. No dates, just three sub-directories. / 1. UPLOADED (Self explanatory) / 2. NEW_SHOTS (For the new work as I decide its good enough for you to purchase! / 3. UPLOAD_AGAIN (Some earlier works have been reworked or re-sized, thus…) But I do hear that Lightroom is a great multimedia package! May consider it later this year. So anyone considering purchasing a grand program for organising their photograph collection: Stop. Think. Revise. Resort

• Which Group Has My Art?

  First thing to say is this: I get my best ideas in the shower after a long nights sleep. While the hot water is flowing down the back of my neck, I find my mind open to all that I’ve dreamed throughout the night coalesces to form an actuality. I am an entrepreneur, a dreamer, an ideas-man. I am constantly thinking of ways to improve my ‘lot in life’, about the actions I am required to perform my day-job, about ways to shoot a photograph (particularly composition and lighting), and forever devising new ways to improve on existing conditions or locations. That’s me in a nutshell. Not many people realise this, mostly because I normally get things done before other’s realised there was a problem to be fixed. I realise that actions require preparation, and the best preparation is sometimes a good sleep. Thus, we end this paragraph where it started, yet we move onto why I said all that. This morning I awoke, suddenly and quickly, with two thoughts. ... 1. My redbubble group paragraph is too busy and difficult to read. / ... 2. I don’t know which groups my artwork is in. That’s not good. Two micro seconds later, the answer arrived from a combination of a lot of thoughts that must have been flowing all night long. In conjunction with the image displayed below, here is my answer for Redbubble to implement if they wish. While I know not how, I do know it’s possible. Basically, Redbubble is one HUGE database of binary-code (that we see as text and images). Everything has a category. These categories can be used to report on any query requested. Just as long as it has a defined layer, anything in this database can be requested. With the right query (in the same way that MS Access works), all of our information can be boxed up for viewing. So, the answer is as simple as the image I created: ( 1 ) This links to a page of ALL my art that has been put within ALL the group I am a member. ( 2 ) This links to a page of all my art that is within that group. The ‘A’ could be either a symbol or a number representing the total number of works in that group. I prefer the latter. Admittedly, there is one fault with this idea: Some people are members of so many groups. Maybe redbubble can limit the groups listed in this mini-database are only those where submissions/contributions are added. Therefore, if you are a member of a group but have not yet added an artwork, it will not show up. But this is just an idea. / I’ll let the powers at RB decide what they wish to do next.
