  • Portrait of a guy (Indian or Black American) underlying a bolted frame plate covered in a block print along with surrounding abstract shapes and textures, some flat, some in 3D. A white airbrushed cloud was added to this composition to bring more depth between the shapes also creating a frosty cold air feeling for this black and white image. 1-6-07

  • This set of three gauges shows the heat of the air being pumped into rooms throughout this underground war bunker. The signs above them list the rooms that are being fed, and the left ones goes up to 39, showing how many rooms were in this facility. though by my reckoning this is also inclusive of toilets and cupboards etc.

  • Further up the corridor to the staff residence was another trolley, im guessing these were used for removals when this site was closed. Above it is the ivy coming through the walls and joints, what will be the removal of this building given long enough. There are already places where the joints and mortar are cracking because the roots of the ivy is starting to push through them and force cracks into them.

  • This office has definitely seen better days, with mouldy net curtains up at its window, peeling paint all over the walls and the floor, and even the seats are starting to be mouldy. As you can see there is even a hole right through the desk where part of the roof above has come through, and yet still there stands an old phone defiant and triumphant as plants grow around it.

  • I had to get a close up of this beautiful old girl, and i couldn’t help but wondering what tunes had been played on her through the years. I’m guessing someone was a decent player, because otherwise it would have been a more modest piano that would have been here. I remember as a kid that pianos would be referred to as Joanna’s in my family, though i think this grand piece would be deserving of a more grand name, so i name her Lady Joanna!

  • This is the marvelous view looking along into the chapel at this abandoned asylum, i absolutely love the colours and the shapes in this room, and the two trenches in the floor from where the pipework has been gotten to only add to it for me in this case.

  • I think perhaps the brick was left here in case you needed to ring customer services for some incompetent company, and then at least you would have something to bang your head against if needed.

  • The wear on the chair combined with the dust and dirt of the place meant that i just had to get one quick shot of this before we moved on.

  • As you might have noticed, if there is a mortuary slab on an explore you can pretty much guarantee that it is going to get photographed. This one was no exception, even though i have photos of it from a previous visit to this site they had been in the darkness as previous explores here were 2am attacks, so i thought one in the daylight could be good.

  • In the doctors living quarters of this abandoned mental asylum lays a number of articles that could be lifted out of any house of the time, such as these vacuum cleaners and ironing board stood in one of the rooms. Sometimes really quite personal things are left behind such as letters and photographs which are always interesting to have a spy at, but mostly its just simple artifacts like this.

  • Looking at this chair i cant help but think of being sent to the headmaster in a boarding school, being made to sit outside and wait, wondering what your punishment might be.

  • Strapped on the side of this abandoned ship works is a tiny little tin plate annex used to cover a set of emergency stairs and pipework from the various sinks and toilets around the building.

  • The way these shelves have fallen over just reminded me so much of a wave i couldnt not take the shot.

  • This is the remnants of a crusher / sorter at this abandoned quarry, now just rusting away to itself.

  • Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles, California, detail (night). Architect: Frank Gehry /

  • A skull was left laying on one of the desks in this abandoned school, most likely remnants of a long forgotten biology class. Perhaps it could have alternatively been from an art class, used for still life drawing. The pupils are grown up now, the teachers moved on, no one left to ask.

  • A close up of the statue of Mary, taken in the chapel of an abandoned seminary.

  • The decor in some of the rooms of this hotel worry me, no wonder this place closed down! Also, the route needed to get to some of the rooms was simply insane as it was a converted mansion / castle. One particular room required 4 corridors and 6 different stair cases to get to from the reception!

  • I loved the symmetry shown looking down the aisle here in the stock room of this mill.

  • This is a potcher from an abandoned paper mill. Wood fibre mulch, boiling water and chemicals would be put into this giant ball and spun until the fibres were bleached ready to be turned into paper.

  • Previously a mess room in the sense of somewhere for the workers to chill out, now this place is just a mess because of the state of it after the dereliction and pigeons have taken hold.

  • Again, exactly as i found it, this chair sat all alone looking out the window at nothing more exciting than the wall of bushes outside of there.

  • A dark and dingy roonm, beds cast aside and lined up in one corner, just to be illuminated by the light from an opposite window, gives a lovely scene.
