Lake Dumbleyoung in Western Australia. Holding the land speed record, Donald Campbell then broke another speed record over the surface of this inland lake. He was the fastest man on land and water but the lake later took his life.

Here is another one from my macro collection. Again, I’m my own worse critic so wasn’t too sure about this one so I’ll let you decide.

This is actually the oldest piece I’ve posted in here. I did this back when I was a freshmen in college nearly ten years ago. Wow, was it really that long ago? Seriously? Holy crap, I’m getting old. Anyway, this thing was absolutely huge and I went though a a WHOLE LOTTA’ pencils while drawing it.

Just a fun shot I did through a greenhouse window where they were growing lovely flowers. A bit of darkening and added the moon (of course, or there’d be no reflection to speak of!) ;-)
The Morrigan, ancient goddess of the land, of fertility and death, became associated in more modern times with war. In triple aspect she was accompanied by Nemain (Frenzy), Macha or Badbh (Battle Crow). In her war aspect she appeared over the battlefield, inciting the warriors to become crazy with war-lust, and thus, causing their own demise. The Morrigan was not death herself, she was the harbinger of death, and so the Ban-Shee or the Washer at the Ford, became associated with her. She is the Kali of the Irish pantheon, the Dark Mother to whom we must respect deeply. Some of her symbols are the hooded crow, hawthorne, blackthorne, apple, spirals, night, twilight, autumn, earth, dark places, and the colors: red, black, and white. The Morrigan, represents the dark aspect that we all experience and possess. Everything emerges from the dark, the child from the womb, the day from night, and The Morrigan’s power exists within this place of potentiality. We also end the cycle by returning to the dark, day gives way to night, our bodies return to the earth, and so The Morrigan blesses us by releasing us from her realm and calls us back when it is time. The dark aspect is not something to be feared, for to fear the dark, is to be afraid of our own nature. It is to be understood as part of a natural cycle of rise and fall, expanding and contracting, reaching out and turning inward, etc. The Morrigan offers us a way to understand and navigate the dark paths throughout our life, if only we overcome our fears and reach out to accept the “fruit” of knowledge she offers us. Well, not glass, but still water that evening that looked like glass, and it was this view of the gull looking through the dark reflection that caught my eye… Nikon D70s; Sigma 50-500mm lens;f/6.3; 1/200sec; 320mm focal length; PSE And I think these two shots sort of work together. They may be only the lowly sky-rats to some, but they are among my most favorite birds for their big hearts and courage not to fly off as soon as you come within meters of them. /
Anyone who has been in love knows that you become a reflection of one another, that is, if you have been together for a long time. You start to know what the other is thinking and feeling before they express it themselves, perhaps even finishing each other’s sentences. This image is my rendition of that kind of love. One individual reflecting the other, while still remaining an individual. Somehow the state of being in love gives you that gift of the beloved, always being in your thoughts. A lot of what you do, is done with the other in mind, no matter how subtle it is. We have that person’s comfort at heart and their very essence exist in our souls. That’s why when someone that we have really loved, leaves this physical plane, they are still so clearly a whisper to us in the dark and our heart will always answer back! Original image taken in my garden in Shady Cove, Oregon Black used as a texture, eraser tool used to erase part of the rose, flood filter applied as a reflection, then a second rose was added as a composite to represent the beloved, light effects used in the directional mode
