  • Folk Devils and Moral Panics / This is artwork I have just completed for one-man-music-show Onemancabal / I just wanted to share this piece because I am so very proud of it, I put my heart and soul into this work – and I think when you listen to the music you’ll agree it suits. The idea for this piece was to create a long artwork that would be divided into the various parts of the CD packaging – so the far left is the cover, with the middle section on the inside front cover and the inlay, and the far right is the back of the CD. My intention was to have just a few characters coming onto the front and back of the case, to entice people to open it up and be blown away by the intricate illustration inside. Like a reward for buying the CD! We wanted to have innocent looking characters with a slightly sinister edge to them – reflecting the music (which has some beautiful folky, traditional sounds but isn’t all it seems). It was a great blend of my two distinctive styles and I am absolutely in love with it! / I’ll be posting details and credits on my website soon – and perhaps some snap shots of how it all came together…enjoy! P.S This is only a demo CD, so fingers crossed Onemancabal gets signed and we can all buy his beautiful music…

  • The is the third of a series of design based on the idea of little girls getting caught in the wrong places. I am interested in the juxtaposition of different extremes, and the use of many layerings to morph different ideas into a whole. For this work, I have combined a drawing of a little girl with drawings of veins acting as a dense forest as background. This work is done in Illustrator and Photoshop.

  • This piece is about having a dark day but simply surrendering to it. I really enjoyed using the pastels on plain paper while creating this one.

  • ‘The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it. ’ – John 1:5 The title was inspired by a favourite quote in ‘Of Tuor and the Fall of Gondolin’ by J.R.R.Tolkien that reminded me of the scripture verse: “But it is not for thy valour only that I send thee, but to bring into the world a hope beyond thy sight, and a light that shall pierce the darkness.” Digital photographic montage © Colin Campbell

  • Girls spinning on a whirling carnival ride during a mid summer’s night; from a series: Sunset on the Small Town Carnival. Owing to the rise of mega-parks and high liability insurance, small town carnivals are rapidly disappearing. Whenever possible I try to document these vanishing icons of the Twentieth Century American landscape. The original image was shot at 1/15th with a camera flash and 2 remote strobes. The long exposure shows motion and the flash freezes detail. I used opposing color filters on the remotes to get better depth in the subject. In post processing I used a combination of effects from both Illustrator and PhotoShop. The big trick was getting the file size down by rasterizing my AIs in PS and reopening them in AI and re-saving as a vector.
