I put my heart and soul into this. It was more or less simbolic of what was me as a child emerging from pain. From an abusive childhood that i can’t bring myself to describe without feeling numb and bewildered to this day. i made this…. doll thing, it’s parts glewed together with barbed wire i made, on a painted canvas. Original artwork still in my possession. The dark style and structure of this piece encourage the feel of being trapped in a nightmare for its audience. There are various powers, you know what I am talking about, don’t you? You call them siddhis, don’t you? Do you know all these things are like candles – candlelight in the sun? When there is no sun, there is darkness, and then the light of the candle is very important; but when there is the sun, the light, the beauty, the clarity, then all these powers, these siddhis, are like candlelight. They have no value at all. And when you have the light, there is nothing else – developing various centres, the charkas, kundalinis, you know all that business. You need a sane, logical, reasoning mind, not a stupid mind. A mind that is dull can sit for centuries breathing, concentrating on various charkas, and you know all that playing with kundalinis, – it can never come upon that which is timeless, that which is real beauty, truth and love. So put aside the candlelight which all the gurus and the books offer you. And do not repeat a word that you yourself have not seen the truth of, which you yourself have not tested. My technical skills have increased a fair bit since I created the first image “Just a Hand” that I posted here on RB some time ago. I thought it might be interesting to see what I could make of the concept now, with the better equipment and skills that I (hopefully) have. The actual image of the hand here is a new shot, using a much better lens and more selective lighting. The textures though are the same ones I used before, though I have blended them differently to attempt to make use of more compositional techniques that I was not aware of when I made the original. There is a link to the original below – I would be most interested in anyone’s opinions re the relative value and interest of each version…
