  • Since I’ve started a vampire group, I decided I needed a vampire image. I think the fangs are maybe too subtle, but my fake teeth just didn’t cut it, so I extended my real teeth a little. Also, the title is a quote, for those who don’t recognise it. From the famous vampire author Anne Rice, and her wonderful book, ‘Interview with the Vampire’.

  • Here is my Halloween effort for this year! Description of methodology for the DAC group: I shot a photo of a castle-looking building in infrared. In Photoshop I duplicated the image in the Layers Palette and then used the Multiply function in the drop down menu in the Layers Palette. I also adjusted the colour very slightly in the main adjustments menu Image>Adjustments>Hue-Saturation. I then copied in my sun flare layer under the street lamp and also into the lamp that is above the doorway. Each light is two layers deep, and has been ‘tidied up’ with my eraser to make them look more realistic. I then pasted in my orange moon that I shot through my telescope some time ago, and in the Layers Palette I applied an Inner Glow effect, taking the default yellowish hue and bringing the size of the glow to about the centre of the size slider. Next I created a new layer and plonked the neighbour’s cat onto my base image, and cleaned up around it with my eraser set on soft, fuzzy brush. I added still another layer and made his green eyes orange to match the ‘theme’ of this picture. I flattened the image and here we have a nice ‘moody’ castle sort of picture ;-)

  • As Edward Van Sloan steps out of the curtain: / How do you do? Mr. Carl Laemmle feels it would be a little unkind to present this picture without just a word of friendly warning. We are about to unfold the story of Frankenstein, a man of science who sought to create a man after his own image without reckoning upon God. It is one of the strangest tales ever told. It deals with the two great mysteries of creation – life and death. I think it will thrill you. It may shock you. It might even – horrify you. So if any of you feel that you do not care to subject your nerves to such a strain, now’s your chance to – uh, well, we warned you. The legend Boris Karloff as The Monster of Frankenstein in the 1931 Universal Pictures film directed by James Whale. Pencils and charcoal on paper.
