There is a song praising the Blue, Blue Danube. Fact is, the Danube is more brown than blue. That night however, these moods with the golden lights, silhouettes, and shadows can never couldn’t have been any more beautiful had the Danube indeed been blue…
Prague is an exceptionally beautiful city. This shot was taken from Charles Bridge, towards Prague Castle. I was glad there was an overcast sky, as it makes this image more dramatic to me. Thanks for looking, hope you enjoyed it. Perhaps you would also like this one: / My art with 1000+ views

This photo was taken on the Danube River 10-31-07 between Turnu Severin, Romania and Belgrade, Serbia. It’s the largest natural gorge (canyon) on the Danube. Before “The Iron Gates” were built it was a gigantic obstacle on both sides to navigate its pointed rocks and cliffs, surrounded with very wild yet attractive nature. This sculpture caught my attention as a beautiful work of art. I am very impressed with the carving, and hope you will enjoy it. Speed 400, length 95mm, D2X camera, adjusted brightness and contrast, sharpened after Jpg.
I captured the River Danube while in Romania. It looks so still and peaceful, hiding the treacherous currents that lie beneath its surface. The opposite bank (where the houses can be seen) is Serbia, so the river forms the border between the two countries at this location.

I do not love you except because I love you; / I go from loving to not loving you, / From waiting to not waiting for you / My heart moves from cold to fire. I love you only because it’s you the one I love; / I hate you deeply, and hating you / Bend to you, and the measure of my changing love for you / Is that I do not see you but love you blindly. Maybe January light will consume / My heart with its cruel / Ray, stealing my key to true calm. In this part of the story I am the one who / Dies, the only one, and I will die of love because I love you, / Because I love you, Love, in fire and blood. Serbia. Belgrade view. / . / feautured in The Mysterious Balkans group. / and featured in group All Countries ~ Wetlands, Ponds, Lakes and Rivers / . Construction of the original bridge began in 1933. On October 27, 1935 it was inaugurated by the Prince regent of Yugoslavia, Pavle Karađorđević [3] and named after the still minor King of Yugoslavia, Petar II (Most Kralja Petra II). After German attack on Yugoslavia on April 6, 1941 in the course of the World War II, Yugoslav army command decided to blow up all three existing bridges in Belgrade (two over the Sava and one over the Danube) in a vain attempt to slow down the German army advancement. The Bridge of King Petar II was destroyed in the night between April 10 and 11, 1941. . / . Germans repaired the bridge for their purposes during the period of occupation 1941-1944. In spring of 1944 Allied Anglo-American bombing of Belgrade began. The bridge was hit and damaged in the bombings of April 16 and September 3, 1944. When Germans began to withdraw from Belgrade in October 1944, Germans destroyed the bridge themselves. Reconstruction of the bridge began in 1945, upstream from the remnants of the destroyed supporting pillars. Plans were done by the 50 Russian engineers, headed by Vladimir Aleksandrovich Golovko (1897-1956), lieutenant general of the Red Army’s technical troops. Joseph Stalin’s orders were that they should build a provisory crossing rather than an expensive railway bridge, but Josip Broz Tito convinced him that proper bridge should be made. On November 7, 1946 first train passed over the new bridge and regular road traffic started three weeks later, on November 29. Originally, Tito named it the Bridge of the Red Army (Most Crvene Armije) [4]. After 20 years, in 1965, the bridge had a last major renovation. Not counting the Đerdap dams on the Romanian border, Pančevo Bridge was the only bridge over the Danube in Serbia that wasn’t destroyed by the NATO aviation during the bombing of Serbia from March 24 to June 12, 1999.
Abnoba, goddess of the Black Forest and Danube Abnoba was a goddess of the Black Forest and Danube River, worshipped by Celtic Gauls, and later by Romans, as Diana Abnoba (goddess of the hunt). Abnoba is believed to mean fog or mist on the river. There are two alters in Roman baths in Badenweiler and Mühlenbach, Germany, respectively, inscribed with the name of “Diana Abnoba” (see below). Rome annexed Gaul in about 51 BC; and it’s conceivable that they attempted to merge gods and goddesses of the two civilizations. / ! I chose to represent Abnoba, because I have an affinity for the forest—to me a kind of sacred place, where trees whisper amongst themselves, their vocal chords, the wind. I love how nature’s cycle of life, and decay-giving life, again, is reduced to the obvious; even there on the forest floor; where I can see it, below my feet and hands, elbows, and curious eye. But to the Celtic Gauls, the forest was life, itself. It was the source of food—they hunted there; the source of firewood for warmth and cooking; for fresh water; and no doubt weapons. The forest was a shield, protecting them. How interesting to have a woman—a divine woman, no less, guarding these very precious resources—the Black Forest, the Danube River, and surrounding rivers and streams. What is it about a woman that would make her the best candidate for protecting the two resources that meant life or death to entire communities? I leave you to contemplate that. Hopefully “Abnoba, goddess of the Black Forest and Danube”, will inspire someone who sees it to become the protector of their own region’s rivers, woods, and creatures—great and small. They need us, as we need them. — Digital Work by F.A. Moore, June 23-24, 2009, in watercolor style; influenced by the art style of Pre-Raphaelites and Arts and Crafts movement. ABOUT THIS WORK: / I added a variety of creatures to illustrate the ease with which Abnoba must have related to them. Look closely and you will find that animals, birds, reptiles, and insects are all represented. Only fish are not represented. (Darn! forgot!) Information was a bit scarce on the animals that reside in the Black Forest region of Germany, except that there are the usual forest animals, including fox and big cats. The Sperlingskauz, a forest owl; and the Kolkrabe, a species of Raven, were specifically noted as being special to the region. I was lucky enough to find images of these two in the public domain on wikipedia images. Look for the Black Forest’s Sperlingskauz (owl) and the Kolkrabe (Raven) in the piece.
