High winds creating a dangerous but beautiful scene at the entrance of the harbor. The rainbow?... an added PS effect. I always wanted the opportunity to see a rainbow by this lighthouse, but not in real life. This is the closest I can get to a dream. Perhaps one day…

Dwarf Caiman. The Cuvier’s Dwarf Caiman (Paleosuchus palpebrosus) “Danger Reflected” has been featured by the group “Reptiles and Amphibians” 6/08. The Dwarf Caiman is a crocodilian reptile from northern South America. It is found in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Surinam and Venezuela. It lives primarily near fast stretches of stream, but also lives in nutrient-deficient waters. It is also the smallest species of the alligatoridae family reaching up to 1.5 meters of length. Juvenile dwarf caimans eat invertebrates, while adult caimans eat both fish and invertebrates. It uses burrows as shelter during the day. It lays eggs on a mounded nest which hatch in about three months. Retrieved from “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuvier%27s_Dwarf_Caiman” / / This caiman is about 4 feet long. They eat many yummy things like fish and crustaceans such as minnows, crabs, mollusks, shrimps, etc. In captivity they also may eat live pinkie mice, crickets, superworms, crayfish, earthworms, turtle pellets or krill. / Check out my other animal images: (Simply Click on the thumbnail to purchase!)

The Greyhound is a breed of dog that has been primarily bred for coursing game and racing. A combination of long, powerful legs, deep chest and aerodynamic build allows it to reach speeds of up to 72 km/h (45 mph)[1] in less than one and a half seconds, or within 3 strides. Until the early twentieth century, greyhounds were principally bred and trained for coursing. During the early 1920s, modern greyhound racing was introduced into the United States and introduced into United Kingdom and Ireland in 1926. (wikipedia.org)

A saltwater/estuarine crocodile at a local Wildlife Park. We only have two crocodile species in northern Australia: The Saltwater and the Freshwater crocodiles. The freshies, as they’re commonly known, are generally safe to swim near as they tend to steer clear of humans and are not capable of doing any serious harm to humans. The salties, on the other hand, are distinguishable by their wider mouths and larger overall size, are more similar to the Alligator, and are known to attack/consume much larger prey, such as buffalo, cattle, and the occasional human being.
Hippopotamus The hippopotamus is regarded to be Africa’s most dangerous animal, and is among the most aggressive animals in the world. There are an estimated 125,000 to 150,000 hippos remaining throughout Sub-Saharan Africa, of which Zambia (40,000) and Tanzania (20,000-30,000) have the largest populations. However they are still threatened by poaching for their meat and ivory canine teeth, and by habitat loss. Hippos spend most of their days wallowing in the water or the mud, with the other members of their pod. The water serves to keep their body temperature cool, and to keep their skin from drying out. With the exception of eating, most of hippopotamuses’ lives—from childbirth, fighting with other hippos, and reproduction—occur in the water.

The Malakoff Diggins area in Yuba County is often a moonscape of toxic horrors. This is the biggest and most visible eco-disaster in the park: a man-made pond created by digging into hillsides with high-powered streams of water, actual ‘water cannon’ that eroded away entire mountains in minutes and made it possible to search for gold in the tailings. That accounts for this unnatural landscape the earth abhors enough to try to hide with trees far enough from this poisonous stew to survive not to turn into some new form of life. The sign marking this location is still partially visible in the trees and I posted it as just a ‘set-up’ picture for this colourful mess. I’m not sure what would happen to a human body if submerged in this concoction but the odds are strong that it wouldn’t be pretty. BTW, those who know I’m colourblind will be pleased to know this photograph was simply enlarged for Red Bubble standards and otherwise left completely ‘as is’. In other words, the colour of this water is as accurate as the colours of the trees and the sky. Ugghhh. / _________ / For those of you unfamiliar with the television game show Jeopardy in America, this is an extremely popular trivia game for people with far too much time on their hands and way too much brain power available to get them into trouble. There are categories for sets of questions and the host, Alex, is asked by each contestant what category of questions to call an answer from: this show makes you ask the question when Alex gives you the answer.

This hippo was quietly swimming around. When suddenly it’s head reared up out of the water and got higher and higher then sunk back down, until just its eyes were showing. Very menacing!!!!
Camera on my back, but lacking inspiration I headed back to the car as a storm front headed in, when for a brief 5 minute window the sun came through, and painted all kinds of colours across the Indian Ocean. / Grabbed a ND grad just to keep the sun at bay and took just one shot. Description: Storm front / Where: Indian Ocean – West Australian Coast / When: Sept 09 / How: ND grad / Raw / Lightroom 2 processed / Camera: Canon 40D
