  • This Artwork Prints Best With White Background / This photo was taken in the Dandenongs on the outskirts of Melbourne, Australia. It is the first photo I have ever sold. It wasn’t for sale at the time but someone saw a print and wanted a copy, so it now sits proudly on display at their home. It is a favorite of mine. The photo prints up very well as a large print. • I was lucky enough today to have the time to get back out to this magic place, and just at the right time too when all the leaves have turned but not yet fallen from the trees. The last time I went there (exactly a month earlier) they were replacing the bridges between the islands so I couldn’t get to the best spot, and even though they are still working on the bridges, I did what any good photographer would do and jumped the barriers anyway. Taken at the Alfred Nicholas Memorial Gardens, Dandenong Ranges NP, Victoria. Shot with a Nikon D200, 12-24mm lens at 20mm, F/16, 100 ISO. 7 shot HDR. Tone mapped in Photomatix, other adjustments in Photoshop. BEST VIEWED LARGER

  • Taken at the Alfred Nicholas Memorial Gardens, Dandenong Ranges NP, Victoria. This tree stands alone on a small island in an ornamental man made lake. I shot this tree exactly one month ago, and I had to revisit it now that we’re further into autumn. I’ve tried to get the composition as close to the original as possible. The difference one month makes is quite astonishing! Shot with a Nikon D200, 7 shot HDR, processed with Photomatix, adjustments made in Photoshop. BEST VIEWED LARGER. Some other shots taken from these gardens:

  • Kookaburra at Melbourne Zoo The “Laughing Kookaburra” is known by its name for its “laugh” which it uses to greet its mate after periods of absences. It can be heard at any time of day but most frequently shortly after dawn and especially when the colour drains from the forest after sunset. One bird starts with a low, hiccupping chuckle, then throws its head back in raucous laughter: often several others join in. If a rival tribe is within earshot and replies, the whole family soon gathers to fill the bush with ringing laughter. Hearing kookaburras in full voice is one of the more extraordinary experiences of the Australian bush, something even locals cannot ignore; some visitors, unless forewarned, may find their call startling. / ~ Wikipedia
