The model is a photo of two black (aka: negroid) persons dancing together, one male and one female. I believe they are from an actual dance troupe, but I don’t know the name of the troupe. I remember there was no mention of that one particular one which is famous for being predominantly black in composition. Anyway, it was a really great photo, I thought, with a lovely pose, and so I decided to do a painting from it. It is very close to the photograph, in pose, but, obviously not very close in clarity, color, etc. This is very much dream or fantasy art, not as in I had a dream, or as in mythical, but, as in I used to dance, I used to be able to dance, and I did it very well. I loved to dance, to let the music take me, carry me away, to be in my body and feel the strength, the power, the challenge of the movement .. and, that is no more. So, yes, of that, I do dream.

They were actually doing a dance, banging the ends of their sticks on the ground. / These dancers are the Shakespeare Morris Men from Warwickshire, dancing in Dawlish, Devon, on the 319th meeting of the Morris Ring. The dancer in the foreground in the pic below, is one of the Mendip Morris Men from Somerset. / The man in the Red Waistcoat is Brian Tasker, the Squire of the Morris Ring, the chief Morris Man in the World.
