Do you know the feeling? When you just want to dance in the light? This picture very much conveys this feeling to me. Taken on a bright October morning near Laage Vuursche/The Netherlands. Near Laage Vuursche, 22nd October 2007, 10.54 am / Nikon D 80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 46 mm / F 10, 1/80, ISO 500

Lee dancing on the cliff edge. The colour in the top cloud is the moon halo. The good news for this shot was that this lovely rockpool lined up beautifully with the moonpath. The bad news was that the rockpool was perched on the edge of a cliff and between the top of the pool and the edge of the cliff there was only an 8” sliver of rock for Lee to stand on. Plus it was blowing a gale (that blur at Lee’s back is her hair blowing in the wind and the chill factor was less than 10 degrees). All Lee had on was this strapless flimsy dress and she kept having to hop out of shot to put her coat and boots on to warm up. And then the idiot photographer would say things to her like “Can you do some rotating pirouettes?” and she had to remind him “You know I’m standing on the edge of a cliff here!” and then shed did them anyway!! It certainly helped that Lee used to be a gymnast but brave or what!! So who would like to volunteer to be my next model :-) Shot off the Bundeena Cliffs, Royal National Park, Sydney Australia. Canon 1Ds MikIII / Tv: 1sec / Av: f/4 / ISO: 1600 / FL: 28mm STOP PRESS. / Catherine just wrote this beautiful poem to accompany this pic – how cool is that! dance / When darkness transcends into the silent beauty / that is night / Would you join me in the magic of a momentary / ray of light? / that holds all our dreams, our wishes, our desires / in fragility / On the cliff, the pull so strong / yet drunk with a lightness of being song / I dance / Behold, beware / only moments apart / the end, the light / where only our truth / could do it right / there where only naked surrender can be / take my hand / dance with me
acrylic on paper 14”x17” / Dancing in lighted pools of Jello-textured neon. “That’s the way to do it,” an old stranger called to the young man who, being suddenly aware of what he was doing, stopped, looked over his shoulder and glanced down at the ragged multi-colored sheet that was pulled tightly around his shoulders. He leaned back and peered up at the sun. Smoke rose from the side of a brick building and the odor or ginger floated through the air. The source of both puzzled him, as he remembered distinctly thinking he was the only person in the world just a few moments before. The old man smiled a toothless smear of flabby lips and bowed down to the dancing youth, who smiled back, jiggled aimlessly for a few seconds on thin, scratched legs and then sat down on a patch of grass in from of a building that had been painted by clowns. The young man pulled back the corner of his gown of rainbow hues and let out his heart, which had been beating all along, but in being freed, started to do a dance all of its own, though it had no legs. It also sang, which surprised the young man as he had always thought he was mute.
Dancing In The Dawn Author: Enivea Standing on top of a hill, a cold wind blowing in our faces. / Standing in the pale dawn light while we wait patiently for the sun to rise. / Standing in the centre of a ‘fairy’ ring of mushrooms. / Standing with a friend who had never before stood and watched the sun rise. / Standing with my dog, who thought the humans so strange. There is much to commend those / Who break a habit of a lifetime / And rise to the challenge / To experience / A moment / Fully. There is something very special / To witness another in that moment / And to feel their wonder as they experience / That which has held humans in wonder over eons. / There is something very special / To witness an event that happens every day / Yet happens only once. The sun has risen. / It’s light casts long shadows / And we play with the shadows, / Dancing in the fairy ring of mushrooms / On top of a hill, with a cold wind blowing. / Pastel painting on colourfix paper
Inspired by ‘Rock’ after the beautiful lyrics (below) that he left on my previous image of Moonstone. Thank you Rock!! :) Well it’s a marvelous night for a moondance / With the stars up above in your eyes / A fantabulous night to make romance / ‘neath the color of October skies. / And all the leaves on the trees are falling / To the sound of the breezes that blow / And I’m trying to please to the calling / Of your heartstrings that play soft and low. You know the nights magic, seems to whisper and hush, / You know the soft moonlight, seem to shine-In your blush / Can I just have one more moondance with you-my love? / Can I just make some more romance with you-my love? Well I wanna make love to you tonight, / I can’t wait till the morning has come / And I know now the time is just right, / and straight into my arms you will run. / And when you come my heart will be waiting, / to make sure that you’re never alone / There and then all my dreams will come true dear, / There and then I will make you my own.

Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain. And I love dancing in the rain, with him.
This is the last part of my new series of “Moon Dancer”, different colours and more painterly than my usual work. Digital Fine Art in oil painting style, by Maria Szollosi a.k.a. MARISKA August / 2009. A big thanks to Anaisnais for inspiring this image – she has written a truly awesome poem – I think we can all relate to it! / ” I DO ” by Anaisnais As I lay down close beside you, / in the stillness of the night. / I can hear your breathing penetrate, / the peaceful pulse of life. I move up close and hold you, / feel the warmth your body glows. / I know the depth of love within your face, / each line – a story holds. You turn your face to se me, / I feel each move you make. / You hold me tight but tenderly, / as we cherish the love we take. And we plan our lives before us, / the babes that we shall raise; / at a time that’s right for all we must / for it’s life that we create. A love to share forever. / A gift from me to you / For life is so much to treasure – / I give my all – in vows, ’ I do’. Cosmos is my favorite flower, and the hardest to photograph! They grow so tall and the slightest breeze causes them to dance all around… But still, I love to photograph them! This has a bit of color treatment to it.
Best Viewed Large “Will you walk into my parlour?” said the Spider to the Fly, / ‘Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; / The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, / And I’ve a many curious things to show when you are there.” / Oh no, no,” said the little Fly, “to ask me is in vain, / For who goes up your winding stair can ne’er come down again.” “I’m sure you must be weary, dear, with soaring up so high; / Will you rest upon my little bed?” said the Spider to the Fly. / “There are pretty curtains drawn around; the sheets are fine and thin, / And if you like to rest awhile, I’ll snugly tuck you in!” / Oh no, no,” said the little Fly, “for I’ve often heard it said, / They never, never wake again, who sleep upon your bed!” Said the cunning Spider to the Fly, ” Dear friend what can I do, / To prove the warm affection I ‘ve always felt for you? / I have within my pantry, good store of all that’s nice; / I’m sure you’re very welcome—will you please to take a slice?” / “Oh no, no,” said the little Fly, “kind Sir, that cannot be, / I’ve heard what’s in your pantry, and I do not wish to see!” “Sweet creature!” said the Spider, “you’re witty and you’re wise, / How handsome are your gauzy wings, how brilliant are your eyes! / I’ve a little looking-glass upon my parlour shelf, / If you’ll step in one moment, dear, you shall behold yourself.” / “I thank you, gentle sir,” she said, “for what you ‘re pleased to say, / And bidding you good morning now, I’ll call another day.” The Spider turned him round about, and went into his den, / For well he knew the silly Fly would soon come back again: / So he wove a subtle web, in a little corner sly, / And set his table ready, to dine upon the Fly. / Then he came out to his door again, and merrily did sing, / “Come hither, hither, pretty Fly, with the pearl and silver wing; / Your robes are green and purple—there’s a crest upon your head; / Your eyes are like the diamond bright, but mine are dull as lead!” Alas, alas! how very soon this silly little Fly, / Hearing his wily, flattering words, came slowly flitting by; / With buzzing wings she hung aloft, then near and nearer drew, / Thinking only of her brilliant eyes, and green and purple hue - / Thinking only of her crested head - poor foolish thing! At last, / Up jumped the cunning Spider, and fiercely held her fast. / He dragged her up his winding stair, into his dismal den, / Within his little parlour—but she ne’er came out again! And now dear little children, who may this story read, / To idle, silly flattering words, I pray you ne’er give heed: / Unto an evil counselor, close heart and ear and eye, / And take a lesson from this tale, of the Spider and the Fly.” The Spider and the Fly / by Mary Howitt Part of “To Dance Between Shadow and Light” series. Into The Night Like a gift from the heavens / It was easy to tell / It was love from above / That could save me from hell / She had fire in her soul / It was easy to see / How the devil himself could be pulled out of me / There were drums in the air / As she started to dance / Every soul in the room keeping time with their hands And we sang a, away, away, away / And the voices rang like the angels sing / And singing a, away, away, away / And we danced on into the night / And we danced on into the night Like a piece to the puzzle that puzzle into place / You could tell how we felt from the look on our faces / We were spinning in circles with the moon in our eyes / No room left to move inbetween you and I / And we forgot where we were / And we lost track of time / And we sang to the wind as we danced through the night And we sang a, away, away, away / And the voices rang like the angels sing / And singing a, away, away, away / And we danced on into the night / And we danced on into the night / And we danced on into the night Like a gift from the heavens / It was easy to tell / It was love from above / That could save me from hell / She had fire in her soul / It was easy to see / How the devil himself could be pulled out of me / There were drums in the air as she started to dance / Every soul in the room keeping time with their hands And we sang a, away, away, away / And the voices rang like the angels sing / And singing a, away, away, away / And we danced on into the night / A, away, away, away / And the voices rang like the angels sing / And singing a, away, away, away / And we danced on into the night / A, away, away, away / A, away, away, away / Singing a, away, away, away / And we danced on into the night Nickelback
