Its a little 80’s in its styling, but hey…thats what all the cool kids are wearing these days! hehe… *Contains one part hearse and a second part Hirst…and voila! Besides the big DH has such an obsession with death i’m surprised he hasn’t made one of these himself.

Original Creation Date: April 17, 2006 / Charcoal on paper, 14” x 20”, freehand. / Original sold at the Skeleton Key art auction, San Francisco CA. There’s a story behind this piece, from the title to the poem. / The poem is written by Damien Echols who currently resides on Arkansas death row for a crime he did not commit nearly thirteen years ago. I’m fortunate enough to have been granted permission by Damien to use his poetry in my work. The poem reads as follows: Her eyes are chained angels, / Glittering and unconscious / Of the growing distance between us. Her lips move, / Issuing a murmur / Like voices from a depth / That aren’t quite loud enough to hear. Against the winter sky / A murder of crows / Wheels and turns Learn more at www.wm3.org

Two friends, one bathroom, a relationship thats as personal as yours. The story unknown the situation you probably have been through. Its the anti- Valentines Day card, its the “Thank you for being my Ex (card), now get …... (card)”. Its open to interpretation and invitation to being lost in translation. All relationships end up this way. You better accept it in art form before it goes and messes you up to the point of finding yourself on the couch!

So many people out there are going nuts and doing each other like rabbits. The times change with every generation yet the insanity in our society gets worse in my view. Kids taking their newborn to class? Movies like Juno have put subjects like this into the spotlight and subjects akin to this have been going on for years. The sex in the streets will not go on forever, it won’t last, it won’t run out. People are sending feeding, mixed messages everyday. Is the act of sex more powerful than heroin? Is the heroine you are making love to actually making love to you back? Ladies, have you found the right man? / So many times has the question been asked but never answered, it’s always straight into the sack. A few drinks and she’s anyone’s. This is not about the after effects. In some ways it’s so easy to “lay” with someone, or even to hook up but the hard work is the relationship angle. Men, even women in equal proportions shy away from the only prospect that can defeat lonliness. Let’s just say that there may be “an entire forest of bodies to fuck”. Sex doesn’t grow on trees. She may call you back. It’s wrong to assume he might run away. So many possabilities. The human drive is someone else as the sex-drive takes you to place it convinces you want to go. No matter if you smash into the tree after the crash, it happens. It is probably happening now as we speak. / It is not about the guilt. This society has far too much of that and in a way it is useless to be remorsefull in hindsight as once that sinking feeling is foregotten it just happens again. If it happens too many times then it gets amalgamated in a ball of regret that might do more harm to the morale. It’s about the living of everyday. Respecting one’s self everyday. The times of living your life cheaply are numbered. You are a unique structure on this earth and you deserve another to match the same unique beautiful flower that you display. You don’t need a weed that looks pretty at first but will avage wht is at the core of your flower as the winds carry the “weed” to the next one and he oher. You deserve better. Man or Woman, this work is dedicated to you. This is about the love the way it should be.

THE SUBJECT: / Everything was perfect for this shot. There was no surfing action off the breakwater and I was on my way back to the car when I saw young Damien here and his mate practicing some BMX moves. / I sauntered over and made a few tentative shots when Damien came over and asked if I would make shots of the moves so he could see how he was going. So with a more than co-operative subject I set myself up for a good afternoon session with these two dudes. THE LOCATION: / At the ramp at Town Beach, Port Macquarie , NSW, Australia. THE MAKING of ‘Damien Tries a Tabletop Look Down #1’: / It was back in the days of my old workhorse the Fuji S5500 and I was using 3x Multi-shot high resolution .jpg. I had also left the camera set to Hard Sharpen which is NOT a good thing to do when shooting .jpg unless you are shooting architecture or such. No sharpening was applied to this at all during processing and I actually had to soften the edges slightly with a 5% Lens Blur to help get rid of the white halo artefacts. A 20% Lens Blur was used on the background behind the spectator. / I pre-focussed on an area of grass at the same distance as Damien would when up in the air then with the shutter release still half way down I framed the ramp and waited for the action. / Believe it or not NO flash was used here! The natural light from the lowering winter sun was absolutely spot on for the session. / While the colour version is quite good I much prefer this B&W version as it allows the viewer to concentrate more on Damien. / Fuji S5500: 1/1000sec @ f/3.1, ISO100, Hand held. / Lightroom 1.1 & Photoshop CS3.
