A friend and I road tripped through central South Dakota a few summers ago and got to chase this rainbow for about an hour down Highway 14. I pulled over to take this picture of the bow over a ripened wheat field with drops of rainwater still glistening on the points of the barbed wire fence.
I wish you could have been with me when I took this shot. I had run out of slide film, and only had some very old and outdated negative film left in my camera bag, when I came upon this delicate, but strong blade of grass. Despite sub zero temperatures and a frigid and vicious South Dakota winter wind, this grass seemed to be stretching gracefully and hopefully towards the last rays of the winter sun before it ducked behind the trees for the night. I was amazed by the simple beauty that this single blade of grass presented to me that day. It made me remember that even when times are tough there is always a ray of hope if you search for it. It touched me in a way that I can’t put into words. This photo is dedicated to my dear friend, Barb Johnson, who we lost to cancer. She fought hard. I pray she is in a good place now.
The fog from the night before created an elaborate lacy frost on the morning branches. / While South Dakota winters may have their “bite”.... we are also blessed with many delicate and beautiful moments where nature reveals her artistic grace.
A seemingly never-ending sunflower field overlooking the Black Hills in South Dakota. I think you could walk for hours and not ever reach the other end….
Beautiful Aztec dancer at a Native American Powwow. She glowed with such an inner beauty and danced like a Goddess. It was hard to take your eyes off of her!
Portrait of my daughter in Art Alley close to where we now live.
This place…secluded…alone…in the desolate prairies of Wyoming. Somebody’s dream….their first home….raising kids and trying to make it off of the land. And now the dreams are faded…..people moved away. Too hard to make it out here….but still beautiful, even when abandoned. / *Orton effect by Don Miguel

Hunting pheasants on the prairies of North Dakota with my brothers dog Shelby, we both decided we needed a break after a long hard push. I don’t know who was more tired her or me! Both our tongues were hanging out! Just shortly after this she did a beautiful point on a rooster and the game was on! Down the pheasant went and started running. She was all over the place but the bird finally stopped and she retrieved it! Truly they are “Man’s Best Friend” A side note for you hunters and non hunters out there. The dog is a Brittany, and the gun is a model 59 Winchester with a fiberglass barrel. Photographer / Robert Berry / Nikon D80 18-135 mm Nikkor Lense Best Viewed at full size!

After a day spent on the road we were heading home when we came upon this doe lit up by the full moon. She stood there for a second and then she was gone.
