Annabella is a home-body and loves her home town which she knows like the back of her hand. She likes to go for walks every day and admire the houses and flowers around town.
This work was featured in the group “Out of the Past.” Charcoal and white pastel on mylar drafting film with moonstone Canson backing paper, 10×8” From the Black Butterfly series. I’m creating a few small works for the series – pieces that are priced to sell. They will be presented in vintage swing frames and displayed at the gallery on pedestals.
Hey, it’s 0630, it’s cold, it’s very foggy out so what do you do? You pull up the doona and stay in bed go out and take pictures of course! 3-frame HDR, tone mapped in Photomatix and converted in CS4
A Bishnoi woman, in India’s Great Thar Desert, keeps her environment clean. Her village, located in Rajasthan, is about 30km from the Pakistani border. She uses a broom made from a bundle of straw bound together. / From what I could see, she was doing little more than stirring up dust. But anyhow, it made for a good photo!
Nut had a special relationship with the sun and stars. She was thought to swallow the stars in the morning and give birth to the sun. During the day, the sun would travel across her body and in the evening, this would be swallowed as the stars issued forth from her womb. This image was likened to a sow swallowing and then giving birth to her piglets. In her form as a cow and as a woman she was often pictured with stars upon her body. Painting with wax, inks, pigment, chalk and gold leaf / 100×42 cm on paper Music – Massive Attack – Sly / Sly

Daily Drawing (painting today!) “Danaë” A rare-for-me oil on canvas study, 10×8” Painted over an old painting for texture. I’m still learning oils, this is just a fun monochrome study while I’m working on a larger drawing. I had an ornate gold frame for the piece, so I thought this a fitting title. I kind of like the concept, might have to make this one into something larger. Original framed to 14.5×13.5” available on my blog at http://amwhitestudio.blogspot.com/
Please view larger to better see the sweet expression on this little Carolina chickadee’s face.

...more of the Daily Tao Series…...... From the book ‘Tao Daily Meditations’ by Deng Ming-Dao on Joy Do your devotions make you happy? / Is your life a joyous song? In all this talk about spiritual devotion, there is one simple fact. You have to like it. It should make you happy. It is unfortunate that so much coercion, unhappiness, bitterness, guilt, and fear become wrapped up in spirituality. Why can’t we simply do things out of joy? Practicing spirituality isn’t a matter of drudgery. It isn’t a matter of fear. It isn’t for fitting into a social group. It has nothing to do with status. Being devoted to holiness in your life is a matter of joy and celebration. When you sit down to meditate, a smile should come to your lips and a feeling of joy should permeate your body. When you go to consecrated ground to give thanks and celebrate, you should do so not because of the day of the week or out of the habit of ritual, but because this is the best way that you know how to adore your gods and express the wonder of being on this earth. Yes, yes, there is much unhappiness in this existence. That unhappiness is part of the overall field of negativity. There are also positive things in life, and spirituality is foremost among them. So whenever we practice our spiritual devotions, let it be in gladness and joy.

This series is called ‘Daily Tao’. Chinese symbols taken from the book ‘Tao Daily Meditations’ by Deng Ming-Dao. The book was given to me by a dear friend, and former lover. I enjoy picking it up and reading the entries, finding something new to take from them each time. From ‘Tao Daily Meditations’ on worry: Worry is an addiction / That interferes with compassion. Worry is a problem that seems to be rampant. Perhaps it is due to the nature of our overly advanced civilization; perhaps it is a measure or our own spiritual degeneracy. Whatever the source, it is clear that worry is not useful. It is a cancer of the emotions – concern gone compulsive. It eats away at body and mind. It does no good to say, ‘Don’t think about it.’ You’ll only worry more. It is far better to keep walking your path, changing what you can. The rest must be dissolved in compassion. In this world of infants with immune deficiencies, racial injustice, economic imbalance, personal violence, and international conflict, it is impossible to address everyone’s concerns. Taking care of yourself and doing something good for those whom you meet is enough. That is compassion, and we must exercise it even in the face of the overwhelming odds. If we all did this, what would our world be like….......? / XO Jenny

This is the first in a series of images I created from rocks that I gathered along the Snake River on my daily walks with Wiley. I hope you enjoy my latest obession. :o) This series is called ‘Daily Tao’. Chinese symbols taken from the book ‘Tao Daily Meditations’ by Deng Ming-Dao. The book was given to me by a dear friend, and former lover. I enjoy picking it up and reading the entries, finding something new to take from them each time. From ‘Tao Daily Meditations’ on Laughter: Hilly village lanes, / Whitewashed sunlit walls. / Cerulean sea. / The laughter of children. We as adults dwell upon our grizzled complexities, our existential anxieties, and our preocciu[ations with responsibilities. We hear the merriment of children and may sigh over our lost childhoods. Although we can no longer fit into our old clothes and become young again, we can take comfort in the optimisim of children. Their rejoicing can gladden us all.

From ‘Tao Daily Meditations’ on Stillness: Wind stirs the bamboo, / But once the wind passes, / The bamboo is silent. / Geese land in the chill pond, / but once the geese fly away, / There are no reflections. / In the same way, / Once the red dust passes, / The mind is still. The affairs of the world are often euphemistically referred to as red dust. If we do not involve ourselves with the difficulties of the world, there will naturally not be any suggestion or stimulation present. Then the mind will be still. The still mind is capable of the most supreme states of existence. Obviously, total withdrawal from the tribulations, dangers, sensual tempations, and entanglements of everyday life would be one way of doing this. If you feel ready to do this and you have that option, then you should do so. You will find satisfaction and happiness very quickly. But if you are obligated to remain in the world for some time more, and still want to practice the art of tranquility, you must execute withdrawal on a more microcosmic scale. Then stillness is possible for at least short periods. Even short periods of stillness must be beneficial….......... :o) Peace, love & happiness, / Jenny
