A Bishnoi woman, in India’s Great Thar Desert, keeps her environment clean. Her village, located in Rajasthan, is about 30km from the Pakistani border. She uses a broom made from a bundle of straw bound together. / From what I could see, she was doing little more than stirring up dust. But anyhow, it made for a good photo!
Forgotten corners of past and neighbours in the street, talking in the afternoon of minutiae and little stories. / In the shadows of the houses, old eyes and old hands remember an age lost.
Annabella is a home-body and loves her home town which she knows like the back of her hand. She likes to go for walks every day and admire the houses and flowers around town.
Nut had a special relationship with the sun and stars. She was thought to swallow the stars in the morning and give birth to the sun. During the day, the sun would travel across her body and in the evening, this would be swallowed as the stars issued forth from her womb. This image was likened to a sow swallowing and then giving birth to her piglets. In her form as a cow and as a woman she was often pictured with stars upon her body. Painting with wax, inks, pigment, chalk and gold leaf / 100×42 cm on paper Music – Massive Attack – Sly / Sly

This work was featured in the group “Out of the Past.” Charcoal and white pastel on mylar drafting film with moonstone Canson backing paper, 10×8” From the Black Butterfly series. I’m creating a few small works for the series – pieces that are priced to sell. They will be presented in vintage swing frames and displayed at the gallery on pedestals.
Daily Drawing (painting today!) “Danaë” A rare-for-me oil on canvas study, 10×8” Painted over an old painting for texture. I’m still learning oils, this is just a fun monochrome study while I’m working on a larger drawing. I had an ornate gold frame for the piece, so I thought this a fitting title. I kind of like the concept, might have to make this one into something larger. Original framed to 14.5×13.5” available on my blog at http://amwhitestudio.blogspot.com/

...more of the Daily Tao Series…...... From the book ‘Tao Daily Meditations’ by Deng Ming-Dao on Joy Do your devotions make you happy? / Is your life a joyous song? In all this talk about spiritual devotion, there is one simple fact. You have to like it. It should make you happy. It is unfortunate that so much coercion, unhappiness, bitterness, guilt, and fear become wrapped up in spirituality. Why can’t we simply do things out of joy? Practicing spirituality isn’t a matter of drudgery. It isn’t a matter of fear. It isn’t for fitting into a social group. It has nothing to do with status. Being devoted to holiness in your life is a matter of joy and celebration. When you sit down to meditate, a smile should come to your lips and a feeling of joy should permeate your body. When you go to consecrated ground to give thanks and celebrate, you should do so not because of the day of the week or out of the habit of ritual, but because this is the best way that you know how to adore your gods and express the wonder of being on this earth. Yes, yes, there is much unhappiness in this existence. That unhappiness is part of the overall field of negativity. There are also positive things in life, and spirituality is foremost among them. So whenever we practice our spiritual devotions, let it be in gladness and joy.

There are times in our lives where we all feel like we’re not producing enough work or nurturing our creativity. It’s easy to reach a point where you feel as though you haven’t been creative for ages. Today I’d to share a little tool that has helped me avoid that feeling, even when I’m too snowed under to even contemplate spending time on a project. It’s called a feed reader (otherwise known as a software based aggregator or RSS reader). A feed reader allows you to read updates from multiple blogs and websites in one place, and saves visiting all your favourite blogs on a regular basis. It’s a useful tool for keeping up to date with news an information on the topics that you’re passionate about including art, design, photography and writing. It can serve as a great learning tool and source of ideas and inspiration … a bit like having a daily newspaper written just for you. Here’s a peek at just a few of the many (currently over 60) blogs I keep an eye on: / / / / / / Setting up a feed reader is quite simple. There are many web based feed readers including Google Reader, Bloglines and Netvibes. All you need to do is sign up for an account then add the feeds you’d like to follow. Each time you sign into you feed reader, you’ll have a list of recent posts on your chosen topics. For those who are interested in finding out more, these links should help: Which Feed Reader is best?
