This is an offer to anyone interested in having one of my Alien Landscapes done up / using one of their photo’s or parts of and posted in my art section. / I tend to like surfing, sea’s,ocean, mountains, scenic views etc. / Although I’m not confined to just those. / The planet I create would have your name, and a story made up from your profile / or something you like, the photo would only be used for the DA then deleted. This could be a fun thing. If interested I will go to your site and choose a couple, let you know and you would send me the image.

For you who watch me on DA, this is being mirrored….... Well I have a few things which I wish to share with you all today, so without farther adoo, read below. deviantArt and Pedophiles! Yes you read correctly, and honestly I am a little concerned here with this. And honestly, you all should be as well. I was just reading this journal THEY BANNED MASPP UPDATE! which I saw on the today page. I want you ALL to go and read this, asap. Seriously. And honestly, read the journal and READ the replies which were posted in it. !MASPP is (was) a club called “Mothers Against Sexual Predators” Now I understand DA’s position on the ban, but honestly, I think a group like this is good for a community that has millions of members. I know that listing things in your journal with names saying “so and so is a sexual predator here on this site” is quite a statement to make. However, at the same time, let’s be honest, the staff here in inundated and how can a few (let alone 100) people even begin to make a dent on a site that has millions of people. After watching MSNBC’s “To catch a predator” about MySpace and seeing how DA handled this situation, I am not real sure they did the correct thing here. Food for thought on this--* This screen cap made me wonder which states why the account is banned. Hmmm a case of libel, well yes maybe, but I think a fine line is being walked here. Which is more important, libel, or the thought of maybe now missing 1 sexual predator because the club is banned. Give that one some thought folks and let me know what ya think about this…. My New Website!!— Yes, I have totally moved and redone my entire website. I did like my old one, but in the end, I wanted something cleaner that was much more professional, something that would fit my work and make it look the best that it can be. I choose ZenFolio. Sooo without farther hesitation, I introduce you all to the almost totally completed, jdebordphoto.com:http://jdebordphoto.com website! And here comes Autumn!!- * Autumn is now in full swing in the mountains here and this week and next is what is called “Peek week” here in Colorado…..when the trees in the mountains are set a fire with color….the Aspens changing the classical Golds, and people come from everywhere on earth to see it. Tomorrow I will make my annual trek up to Rocky Mountain National Park to do some serious shooting. And, a big bonus, the Elk are in Rut! I hope to get some good shots of Bulls…..we’ll see, so stay tuned! I am REALLY looking forward to this! New Lens!- * Well I got my $15 Kalimar 28-70mm f3.5 (constant) Macro in the mail which I won on ebay. First thoughts, a great big huge “WTF” is what I thought at first. Hmmm when I look through the viewfinder in my cam, it almost seems hazy in a sense. That is NOT good. So I ventured outside to set it with some random snaps, and well, upon downloading the pics I was pretty horrified. The sheer lack of contrast really scared me, as I have never had images look like this outta cam before. However, upon playing a lil bit with curves and levels, I am satisfied. It is SHARP. Why on earth though the lack of contrast is beyond me. Anyways, here is example of what I mean. All I can say is thank the Lord above for curves and levels! lol Sample Pic *As Always!- * Thank you everyone for the comments and the favs, I really appreciate the support!

Well greetings all, I am now officially back in action! Took a much needed vacation and headed down to Southern Colorado and New Mexico to do some shooting. So how was it? Well “The Land of Enchantment” lived up to it’s name, providing me with many great shots, and what I loved the most, subject matter than I wouldn’t find here! Let me just say that Santa Fe is one of the most amazing cities I have ever seen…it is rich in history and art, and every where you turned, it was a photo-opp. The architecture there is nothing short of amazing and needless to say, I did a whole series entitled “The Doors of Santa Fe”....this is something which I have always always wanted to do and I got my chance. I think all in all I could easily live in NM, it reminds me a lot of Colorado, though with a more profound Native American impact and a lot more desert. So stay tuned because the shots are going to be just rolling in! Food For Thought—- Well it seems as though Imageshifter’s is quite interesting. He actually found RedBubble while searching on Google and came upon my Tshirt “DA Sucks” lol Go figure, huh? Anyways, check out his latest journal, he has some interesting feedback on things. Anyways, here are a few things which I have found quite interesting lately on RB, if ya get the chance, please try to check them out and let em know I sent ya! I hope ya all are good out there in photoland and until next time, keep a clickin’!

I just don’t get it…I really don’t. How is it that deviantArt can justify charging a massive markup to non-print accout subscribers for when they want to purchase their very own art, when they can go directly to the source, ezprints.com and order it much cheaper. AM I missing something here? I invite you all to read my latest blog entry in my journal on deviantART which calls this into question, with some interesting answers for the administration there. The Raping of Artist’s on DA—-UPDATED! In it I mention Redbubble…I think we will be getting quite a lotta familiar faces soon over here….something just doesn’t sound nor smell right with all this! And honestly, it makes me quite sad….. / —-John
Welcome my fellow Deviants! Greetings to all of you that took my advice in my journal...
Welcome my fellow Deviants! Greetings to all of you that took my advice in my journal over on deviantArt and came over here to RedBubble! There have been quite a few it seems to come on over and explore things. This place is quite different than DA as you may be finding out, but the differences I feel are also better as you will see. So I thought that I would go ahead and throw a little primer together for you guys, kinda a FYI for ya! I hope this helps you guys! I also am going to feature a few works from some of ya down below :) 1) RedBubble is FOR the Artist!- DA charges people for having a ‘subscription’ and also a ‘premium prints subscription’. When a user does NOT have a premium print subscription, they can only make 10% profit of their sales. When they have a premium subscription, artist only gets 50% of markup with DA getting the other 50% of artist profit. RedBubble is 100% free, costs nothing to join, there is NO member subscription, the artist keeps 100%!! of ALL profits with RB only getting the base price. There is NO ‘premium print subscription” on RB. 2) NO Popularity Contest Here!- Yes You read right, there is NO popularity contest here. Everyone is one and the same, all on the same level. Sure, your statts are accessible but are NOT displayed on the front of your page. In fact they are actually kind of hard to find lol I don’t even recall where they are at! There is no “popular” area of any kind, and all that there is really is the art of the front page. Nice huh? Thought many of you would like that! 3) A Structured Groups/Clubs System—- DA has been saying that they would something in this form now for years, literally, it took RB like a week to do it lol You can see all the groups here 4) Borders and Watermarks—-Do NOT add border for images which you are uploading here, as it generally a pain in the rear for when they print things. As such, they discourage it. The same for watermarks, as RB has a built in watermarking system, and if you upload an image that has a watermark then that image when sold will have one on it. (Though I am sure they would flag it first) 5) * True Theft Prevention!-* RB has an option that places a 1 pixel gif overlay on top of your images, so when someone tries to download an image of yours, instead they get a 1px gif! 6) The HTML here—- Ok all things considered, the HTML here is a lil whacky and unique. There is a cheat Sheet there that will help you will that and also a Firefox extension you can use, which I use and has been a total lifesaver. 7* *Getting Started On RB!- There is a BUNCH of things that have been posted here in the forums to help you guys out! When in doubt, always head there. These forums are VERY different than DA as teh age here is older and the atmosphere much more professional. Tutorials and Tips for Newcomers There is a wealth of info there including how to make a site badge, slideshows showing your RB portfolio, banner images, How to make T-shirts for sale, etc etc. 8*) “The Atmosphere Here!-” It is quite different as you will see. The owners of the site and admins are VERY friendly and helpful, and are fellow full time artist’s as well. The age here is older, as you will notice right away! Many of the people who I have brought here have actually left DA and haven’t looked back simply because they like it better and feel much more comfortable. 9)* “The Upload Process here—-” It is a lil slower, because the servers are in Australia, but not by much. And that is the only slower thing about this site, it loads faster, as a whole, pages and images fly when you click on them. 10) “NO Adverts!-” Yes that is correct, no adverts anywhere, period, which makes for an awesome experience for anyone who sees your work. It also makes for a nice site to send family and friends to show your work. Art the way it is meant to be seen, as art! All In All—- I hope you guys really enjoy it here. It is a really exceptional site that very much has the artist in mind. This is something that I think has been needed. Anyways, if ya all have any questions, please feel free to ask me, and I will help as I can as per usual! Hope ya all like the features below! —-John

“Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been and there you will always long to return.” ~Leonardo da Vinci
Taken from Leonardo in Your Toothbrush… Leonardo da Vinci was born in 1452 in Vinci, a village near Florence, Italy. He was trained as an artist and sculptor in the studio of the well known renaissance artist Andrea del Verrocchio and worked for the Duke of Milan for many years. Leonardo died in 1519 at the palace of the French King Francis I at Chambois. Leonardo has been called an artist, painter, and architect by art historians, but in fact his surviving artistic works consist of less than a dozen paintings, including the Mona Lisa in Paris and the Last Supper in Milan. A good part of his career (1482-1500) was spent as an engineer designing civil and military structures for “Il Moro”, Duke of Milan. After Leonardo’s death, he left hundreds of drawings of machines, machine elements, and kinematic mechanisms. Leonardo designed machines for the technical problems of his day, including textile machines, clocks, metalworking devices, and most certainly military machines. Even his scientific work in hydrodynamics and flight were closely related to engineering design. Leonardo’s drawings for human flight machines contained complicated linkages similar to those in his other machine drawings. Leonardo was not the only artist-engineer in this endeavor. There were other Italian architects making a living as machine designers such as Mariana Taccola (1382-c.1460) and Francesco di Giorgio Martini (c.1439-1501) both of Siena. There is evidence that Leonardo had access to the machine drawings of these and other artist-engineers. By around 1500, Leonardo was credited with attempting to catalog the basic mechanisms that all machines are made of: linkages, gear pairs, ratchets, escapements, and pumps, some of which are used today in your motorized toothbrush. Many of these mechanisms were studied and cataloged by machine engineers of the 19th century like the German machine theorist Franz Reuleaux, who built hundreds of models of these basic mechanisms, many of which can be found in our cars, washing machines, garage door openers, cameras, and VCRs, as well as in your electric toothbrush. My cousin Dan didn’t feel it was relevant to the story line!!! / However it does appear on the front cover The Church of Scotland’s 2010 Diary. / Being a diary its a living novel which will tell countless stories so in my world its a best seller. / As for my big cousin Dan; well I don’t mind really because his stories aren’t really very good anyway & besides, its not like he’s famous. / Bet none of you have even heard of him!!!! / / The Front Cover

Dave Pearson has saved my life. At least my Red Bubble life. :-) It’s hard to live without hair on the TOP of your head. When you’re a guy constantly pulling out facial hairs, things that prevent it are blessed. Dave has created one of those blessed things. RBArtman is a tiny program that lists all your Red Bubble art when you ask it to download it for you. For some, getting a list of their work isn’t work to sort thru. For the more prolific of us, it’s a challenge. For me, it was impossible. I weed out stuff as quickly as I can but my galleries seem to grow on their own. Worse, I get too artsy-fartsy with titles and can’t find the images without a long search of ALL Red Bubble submissions. Yeah, yeah. Tags are fine. Until your tags are the same tags as 4000 other RB’ers. Then a tag (or even a title) might appear hundreds of times. Even if you CAN keep all your stuff in order, can you edit them from a list? Nope. The option for making all your thumbnails go away and make it easier to get a ton of image names on a page exists within your computer but not inside Red Bubble. Well, a simple right click on a download piece offers you links to edit the piece as well as promote it automatically. :-D Not only can you save each downloaded list as a Artman file, you can export lists as CSV files, making a list of comma separated entries for saving as a text file. Here’s the important part: “This RedBubble hack is brought to you by Dave Pearson. Please note: This isn’t associated with RedBubble. RedBubble don’t endorse this, there’s no connection. It’s just a hack to make life a little easier.” Dave Pearson is also a longtime and active Red Bubble member. Check out his work and you’ll see why he’s a LOT more than a techie! :-D Thanks again, Dave. I still have most of my mustache left. ;-)
