Shopping in Portobello Road Market London. I had this fantastic photo-opportunity to capture a rare sight indeed, a man with a dog on his shoulders shopping. It made me laugh, but I also took time to snap him, it’ll forever make me smile. / Captured with Nikon D700 and 24-120mm lense.
Male Model: Letter M Alphabet Soup Group. When I was in Covent Garden in London recently I was captivated by this male model and a photographer shooting in the upper gallery of Covent Garden. I was only a few feet away, so when I raise my Nikon D700 to snap a few myself, I got some strange looks from them both:)) Hope I don’t steal anyone’s thunder. But I just felt some of the shots I snapped were worth sharing with you all. This one’s been colour popped, his dress was quite traditional about a hundred years ago. Time sometimes stands still in London. / Photomanipulation: A selection made and masked to reveal the colour behing a B&W conversion. More selections to blur the background a little bit more.
This is the first shot that I have posted in a while. It is also the first one I took with my new D700. It is a shot of a Train passing the current track works at Kirrawee Station. They are doubling the tracks. Theses works have been going on for a while now and I think they have also gone over budget quite substantially. Hope you enjoy the image. Cheers, Alex alexkess.com

Dawn Light: St Michael’s Mount from Penzance Cornwall UK. / Waiting for the Light / It was dark when I left home, I didn’t know what the weather was going to be like, but I was determined to be in Penzance for the Sunrise. I didn’t even know where the sun would come up at this time of the year. So after driving the 18miles from Redruth to Penzance I arrived in the darkness and walked to the foreshore with my Tripod, camera, camera-bag, filled with filters etc… I waited in the cold then in the distance I could see the beginnings of the dawn, the seagulls were sqwaking and doing the light dance in the sky. Then I also saw what I had come for, the dark outline of St Michael’s Mount. I waited patiently, shivering in the coldness of the March morning, and slowly but surely the sun began to appear, right behind St Michael’s Mount, and I was there to witness it for the first time in my life. Awesome. If I’d planned it, it couldn’t have been better. I’m not an expert at sunrises or sunsets, but I was focused on getting a good few pictures of this great moment. I tried different camera settings, filtres and ISO settings. I’ve got a few lovely shots, and now know what works with this lense and this camera for sunrises. Well worth sacrificing the pillow and the comfort of my duvet and loving wife. Afterwards, I was cold to the core, but so satisfied. Even if I’d not got any good pics, it was so exhilarating. Try to capture a sunrise, you’ll love it. Camera: Nikon D700, Lense 24-120mm 30sec at f/36 /
My First Visit to Leeds Castle / Looking through the blossom. Easter Flowing Beauty at Leeds Castle Kent UK. On this photography trip, I thought “I’ll go out and only take my 50mm prime (no Zoom capability) with me, this meant that for every single shot, to get the framing right I had to move rather than the lense. It was really interesting. Peoeple were watching me much more than normal, I had to duck down, stan tall, kneel in mud and walk back or walk forward, just to get the framing right. It was a good exercise because what you do get with a prime lense is pure light and quality of glass. It’s obvious in the sharp details in the 170 pictures I took on this shoot. I’ll definitely try it again. However, only taking the 50mm prime did hhave it’s limitations as well. I couldn’t get close enough to some subjects to capture the detail that I’d like to have. However, next time I can alway take along my zoom with me. One good things about Leeds Castle, it cost £16.50 to get in, but that enables you to go back as my times as you like within one year. So I’ll definitely be back to capture some more wonderful scenes from here. The place is a choc-box full of delights for any photographer or artist. It’s magical and amazing. / Camera.
