New Brighton Lighthouse, sits next to the fort, it was originally, a wooden “Perch”. A large post held a light on top and was supported by a sort of tripod. It was erected on the Black Rock in 1683 by the Liverpool Corporation. When foreign ships, passed the old perch, they were charged sixpence for its respect and to keep it in repair. But it was often washed away and a boat had to be launched to recover it from Bootle Bay. In February 1821, the pilot boat “Liver” crashed into the perch and carried it away. It has been said that it was washed away in March 1824 and not recovered until the December. / However the cost of replacing it all the time grew too expensive and it was decided to build a new one. / Taken with my D300 10-20 Sigma lens 7shot HDR Processed in Dynamic Photo and NX2

Sort of a bittersweet moment, apparently the West Coast Demo team will no longer perform at airshows with the F-15. To mark the “retirement” this F-15 was hosed down by two firetrucks as it returned from it’s last tactical flight demo. Nikon D300, Sigma 50-500mm.

Captured at the 2009 Harborfest in Norfolk, VA. This was taken during an underwater dive demo, the crew of the Salvageship Cromo, demonstrated the techniques of cutting steel underwater while wearing an antique but 100% functional dive suit and helmet. Best viewed in LARGE for sure!

As we are nearing the 8th anniversary of 9/11, I wanted to post this shot of Lower Manhattan. I am a bit ashamed to say, that I have not seen the New York City skyline with the World Trade Center Towers. I can only imagine how magnificent it must have looked. We shall never forget!

I took this shot some time ago now when I went to New Brighton for the day I realised that I had taken several bracketed shots of this vertical view so I processed it today. / New Brighton Lighthouse, 5 shots taken with my D300 10-20 Sigma lens HDR processed in Photomatix Pro, NX2 and Photoshop CS4.

The other night I was taking some pictures of this really neat halo around the moon. Finally got pretty cold, and couldn’t resist taking a few pictures of my Christmas tree, while the camera was still mounted on the tripod. Taken with Nikon D300, Tokina 12-24mm lens.
