  • This was taken from the balcony of my “cave house” in Oia, on the Island of Santorini in Greece. This is a place where time literally stands still in a good way. The island is also known as Fira. This town and island are so enchanted that the sunset is an event. People come in by the busloads and one has to get one’s spot at one of the restaurants on the western promontory well ahead of time. The photograph was taken in September, 1997 at 7:10 a.m. Taken with a Nikon F3, 50mm nikkor lens, f/5.6 @1/8 sec on a tripod with kodak elite ektachrome, iso 100.

If you feel fit enough, you can use the zig-zag path from top to bottom. You can walk or you can ride one of the ponies which carry tourists up and down the cliff path from the dock at the base of the cliff. The other way you can get up and down the cliff is to use the 12 cable cars, 6 going up and 6 going down. Each car holds 6 passengers. • The island of Delos is a sacred island a short journey from Mykonos Island in the Cyclades Islands group and is part of Greece. It is one of the most important mythological, historical and archaeological sites in Greece. Since 1873 the École Française d’Athènes (“French School of Athens”) has been excavating the island, the complex of buildings of which compares with those of Delphi and Olympia. This mosiac is from the 3rd century BC and found in the elegant residential quarter inhabited by Roman bankers and Egyptian and Phoenician merchants. Their one- and two-story houses were typically built around a central courtyard, sometimes with columns on all sides. Floor mosaics of snakes, panthers, birds, dolphins, and Dionysus channeled rainwater into cisterns below. Sold to an RB Member in matted print format after being featured in a group.

  • from the port of Parikia, Paros we had taken a ferry across to Antiparos, where we’d spent the day meandering through the beautiful old village and relaxing on the beach. After we’d taken the ferry back across to Paros, we were treated to this dreamy sunset in the little harbour of Parikia – we sat next to the waterside enjoying a mezze … I ask you, does it get any better than this? – Witnessing moments like this – all of god’s splendour – makes time stand still … makes me feel like a child filled with breathless wonder!

  • the ever famous cats of Greece … this one wanted loads of love and would probably have also liked some food … every time I tried to get photos of him he’d head with his nose straight for my lens (had to wipe that clean a few times!); he seemed sure that I was crouching on the ground and getting all twisted in a knot in order to deliver love in the most lavish of forms, rather than for photographic purposes chuckles ! Canon EOS 450D 18-55mm kit lens featured in the Paws N Claws group – what a privilege !! thank you kindly!
