this is one of my samurai fungi, from clan cort! doesn’t look too happy, and possibly in a bit of pain ;)... another story i intend to do, have already done a few 4-5 page stories on them… they’ve come a loooong way since i 1st started on them… originally they didn’t have leg, and whereas they looked like mushrooms, they didn’t resemble real mushrooms…

Kaiju (kaiju) is a Japanese word that means “mysterious creature”, but usually translated in English as “monster”. The most famous Kaiju is Godzilla and other well known Kaiju include King Kong, Gamera, King Ghidorah, and Mothra. This current series can be viewed as stills from various “kaiju” films of my design. It is inspired by “heroes” from my childhood in classic sci-fi/ fantasy films shows namely, Creature Double Feature, and has been combined with my landscape photography. / In college I was fascinated with surrealists like Magritte and Salvador Dali. I was intrigued by the way they juxtaposed images and ideas. In the computer I would create images that would take an ordinary man made objects, tools to be precise, and juxtapose them into a landscape images that I had taken. I would work these two seemingly unrelated items and create a fantasy world where there are no boundaries between animate and inanimate. In some instances the objects took on the life of an animal or they where just some symbol of what might be left behind if man was to disappear. The early workings in college were sometimes crude in design but the fantasy held everything together. There where some important elements that were missing in some of my pieces, namely the landscapes ability to stand on its own without the inclusion of my illusionists elements. After years of working with portraiture, landscapes, and digital manipulation, my knowledge and experience with photography has matured and I see myself coming full circle. Those early concepts in college have influenced my current theme. It has been a joy to include my childhood “heroes” in my photographic work. / I have chosen to use different toys, some vinyl some resin, and left the joints visible to illustrate that they are in fact toys and not a “man in a suit”.
