As most of you know I rescued Dolly Marie, our pet squirrel, when she was abandoned by her mother and she is not living in the wild and has babies of her own. She comes to visit most days and get her supply of nuts from my hand. Well, today I received a call from a asking if I would rescue two orphaned raccoons! Their mother was killed several days ago, and yesterday two of their siblings disappeared. Of course, I went right over there and brought these two little darlings home:) They will live in a hutch in our garage throughout the winter while we feed them and get them healthy and large enough to release them this coming spring. Jack gave them each their monikers, Ranger and Bandit (because of their black masks). I’m so excited the chronicle their rescue with stories and photos! Perhaps I will upload a few stories and photos to RB from time to time. / FEATURED

After Ranger and Bandit have their breakfast and morning bath they like to open the cabinet drawers and play in them. This is Ranger daring me to try to get him before he ducks behind the drawers in the back of the cabinet! FEATURED

Teaching Bandit and Ranger to “forage” for their food, I placed a pumpkin in their “raccoon run” and they have begun to reach in and scoop out the seeds and pumpkin “stuff”! By this coming Spring, hopefully I will have thought of enough things to teach them that they will be able to live in nature successfully.
