I originally intended this shot to be a picture of my son holding onto these balloons and taking off, floating into up into the sky … a fantasy, sotybook sort of image. However, my daughter immediately grabbed these balloons from him and started running off. So, as it turned out this eded up having a more realistic look than the one I originally intended, but I thought it turned out pretty cute with the desaturated colors throughout, except for the colorful balloons.

I made a new little friend for my crane in Born from the Hand. This was folded with a 6×6mm piece of paper, with tweezers and pins, resulting in a crane with wings 2.5mm long. As I hold my creation, I feel like a God; I am the creator; I’ve created a life form so sharp and vulnerable in comparison to my hand. We can only understand size, fragility and significance when we compare two things. When we think, for example, how big the world is, we’re like tiny specks of sand, or even atoms, to the eyes of a God holding the earth in his palm. It took 30 shots before getting one which was somewhat satisfying. This was a baby wild rabbit that my dogs found. The mother had made a nest down under the base of a palm tree in the back yard. I spoke to a volunteer wildlife expert in my area and she said that the mother will return just before the sun sets and then will leave the nest just before sunrise. She told me that the mother will hover just over the opening of the nest, nursing the baby. So if she senses danger she can flee in a hurry. So I put the baby rabbit back down in his nest. I had to give him a name though, so I named him Peanut. Then later that evening I sat on my patio and sure enough just like the rescue volunteer said, The mama rabbit appeared. She also told me that he was about 2 weeks old and that when they are 3 weeks old they are on their own. No more mama. Tough world for a little tike like that! After posting this photo, Julie Langford wrote the most beautiful poem. I’d like to share this with everyone. You are a very special woman! And I thank you from the bottom of my heart for this beautiful gift. I haven’t cried like that in a long time, happy tears and tears that touch a very deep part of my heart. A Memory to Treasure / Late one night, from up the way / My mom went out, not far away / A lady came, and found my bed / A place where I would lay my head She took me out, she thought me lone / But I was not left on my own / She cared for me and then she found / That Mom would come home safe and sound That night she gave a gift to me / The lady took me back you see / By placing me back in my nest / She put my mothers mind at rest But I remember when I saw, / Her watching me with Mom once more / A little tear came in her eye / She didn’t hear me say goodbye So later on when I am grown / And living life all on my own / The one thing I will take with me, / Is Peanut, the name she gave to me. by Julie Langford

Pardon the redundancy but I just wanted to show another view of the smaller crane in Born from Fingers. I liked this angle better, however it was difficult to achieve without brightening my fingers too much. Somehow it was easier to take a clear shot as a bird’s eye view without over lighting. I’m not so proud of the photography, but I am of the origami, so here it is!
