by Philip JohnsonBEST VIEWED LARGER Big City ,even Bigger sky, taken at sunrise on a simply perfect morning, just look at that sky Berrys Bay is located on the Northern shore of Sydney Harbour . The harbour has many bays and tributaries. Berrys Bay /Balls Head Reserve can be reached by train from the city, you alight at Waverton Railway Station. The former BP Berry’s Bay bulk fuel storage and distribution terminal is located on the cliffs and foreshore area of Balls Head/Waverton Peninsula approximately 1.6 km northwest of the Sydney CBD. The site was operated by BP Australia as a fuel storage and distribution facility from the early 1920s. BP’s operations ceased in 1993 and the tanks were demolished in the mid 1990s. Premier Bob Carr announced in 1997 that this site, together with the Coal Loader and Caltex Sites on the other side of the peninsula would be preserved as Public Open Space It now has been returned to the public, as part of Sydney Harbour National Park, as you can see it is a magical site with wonderful panoramic views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge , Sydney Opera House (you can see under the bridge) the Sydney Skyline. Thank god governments make some good decisions returning open spaces to the people not the Developers. And yes England did send convicts to Australia for punishment Equipment used : Nikon D300, Nikon 18-200mm lens, no filters and processed using Photomatix My continuing journey into HDR continues !

My entry for the Quick Challenge at A T-shirt Revolution. The closest book I had to hand was the Collins Concise Dictionary – you did say “any book…”! / I flicked opened the book (at page 1199!). I’d opened it in the ’s’ section; I looked at the words and saw ‘Scalpel’ / The paragraph I chose: Scalpel (‘skælpel) n. a surgical knife with a short thin blade. [C18: from L scalpellum, from scalper a knife, from scalpere to scrape] Thought it was fairly apt for a couple of reasons really: / A) it goes well with the other Cut and Paste challenge at A T-shirt Revolution at the moment. And B) Scalpels and the blades are both made in Sheffield and I drive past the factory to and from work everyday. Detail /

My entry for the cut and paste challenge over in the T-shirt revolution group. I used 3 layers of paper to create the image, and a marker for the line work. The fox itself was formed using a photo i found on wikimedia commons. Please enlarge for detail, and have a look at the shot below to see the structure. Captured at the 2009 Harborfest in Norfolk, VA. This was taken during an underwater dive demo, the crew of the Salvageship Cromo, demonstrated the techniques of cutting steel underwater while wearing an antique but 100% functional dive suit and helmet. Best viewed in LARGE for sure!
