Resign! Now!

This child watched through a broken window as we worked inside. It’s times like this when the natural, uncontrived symbolism of circumstance just presents itself to you and all you have to do is click. There was not pretence, no staging, no crap. Just reality. It still engages me now. Look at his eyes. What is he thinking? He’s aching. He is full on aching. How can I help them more, how can I help them more, how can I help them more… Please give if you can or pass it on to someone else. That’s giving too. All proceeds to charity. NOW AVAILABLE AS A CHRISTMAS CARD! /

I wanted 1942 to serve as an experiment, questioning what stereotype if any surrounded the ‘skinhead.’ Within days I received comments of ‘racist’ and ‘Nazi’ signifying prejudice against a shaven head, when in modern day society diversity is usually praised and encouraged. The origin of the term ‘skinhead’ is not rooted in racism, the term being corrupted in the 1970’s by the neo-nazi movement. The term actually stems from the Jamaican skinheads such as Bunny Wailer, who populated Reggae in the1960’s, some decade previous. By 1968/69, the ‘skinhead’ wasn’t just a hairstyle but a way of life. To these working class people, cleanliness, stylish clothes and good music were dominant. The increasing popularity of Ska music, a branch of reggae bred the skinhead in their straight jeans, large boots, white shirts, braces and nylon or leather jackets and were regularly seen at Judge Dread gigs. Doc Marten, Ben Sherman, and Vespa scooters were typical designers of the ‘skinhead’ movement, which dwindled in the mid 70’s. This is around the time the neo-nazi movement became prominent, as the ‘mod generation’ became divided and those racist, political hating, violent youths were the new face, the new stereotype. They popularised themselves throughout the 80’s and 90’s with bands such as ‘Skrewdriver’ and were akin to increased violence on Adolf Hitler’s birthday. The number of ‘skinheads’ in Britain today is in decline, as in essence the skinhead is a youth organisation for the youth. Thus upon reaching full maturity, starting a family and encompassing different values the need to be in such a group no longer exists and without the experience and knowledge of older members their ‘skinhead’ values are degenerate. This is why I felt my experiment was necessary. Would the youth of day, born after the domination of the neo-nazi still be aware of their values and the attributes, which contribute to their stereotype? The answer lies within you the spectator. Consider what you first felt upon viewing 1942. Did it bring back fond memories of dancing to reggae, Bob Marley and the ‘Chelsea haircut’ or did it make you envisage violent racists? Movements begin, grow and they pass. The real reason the ‘Mods’ shaved their head was to avoid lice, for hygiene. Surely the time close cut hair symbolising a racist has passed. This was a series i took a while back for a project i was doing on fashion and surrealism I must have took around 30 or so photographs to get the best images at different stages. / to take these shots i used a canon 20d propped up on a tripod with a self timer.

Sprawled Traintrack – Dissecting Your Imagination…. a few titles came to mind. Combining illustration and photography to push an idea to the extreme. Really happy with the way the light works off the jeans. I was actually trvelling through Italy at the time and in all the supermarkets were heaps of raw meat, slami, proscuitto etc on display, so I wanted to do a tongue in cheek combination of my environment at the time, thus combined a not so realsitic salami shot I took in a supermarket witht the body and traintracks. Lots of fun!

Where Shadows Cry she came to a place where shadows cry / silenced tongue sings no relief, no sigh / draws only sorrow nigh steps unseen on a fogged covered ground / a broken heart beat, the only sound / solace sought but not found playing where the shadows hide / staying where the shadows chide a cutting blade lashes at her soul / it bleeds her heart, taking on control / her inner light it stole a searing scream begging for release / the red drops fall, the pain will not cease / sting of wounds brings no peace falling where the shadows dwell / calling where the shadows yell now a calmness seed drops in her head / a ray of strength leading heart, it said / come follow me instead some scars are left where anger was placed / in her mind’s eye, some sanity disgraced / bitter lessons now faced burning from the shadows rip / turning from the shadows grip Author: Roger Sampson

I don’t know that man.He doesn’t talk ,walk ,hear, see…he ’s closed to the world. His wife comes every day ,she’s younger than him and I can see a lot of affection in her eyes but everybody knows she has somebody else in her life. She puts a little hat on his head ,cover him with something warm and put him on the balcony, even if it’s cold outside .One day at the beginning of my work I went to get him for supper ,the hat was covering his eyes and since he couldn’t move,he looked like a Mexican taking a nap …I smiled but in the same time I couldn’t help myself thinking how much he must be raging inside cut from the world like this …in fact I was raging inside for being so helpless toward that man. / posted later …. / He died a few weeks after I took this shot, both hands never openned….....Gigi

While all those who tell her how high, how fast, when, why and why not – I say to her – cut loose, and be free. Inspired by my daughter and the lyrics of Master Of Puppets , Metallica. End of passion play, crumbling away / I’m your source of self-destruction / Veins that pump with fear, sucking darkest clear / Leading on your deaths construction / Taste me you will see / More is all you need / Dedicated to / How I’m killing you Come crawling faster / Obey your Master / Your life burns faster / Obey your Master / Master Master of Puppets I’m pulling your strings / Twisting your mind, smashing your dreams / Blinded by me, you can’t see a thing / Just call my name, ‘cause I’ll hear you scream / Master / Master / Just call my name, ‘cause I’ll hear you scream / Master / Master

Perfection - "The Final Cut"- Sydney Harbour Morn - Moods Of A City # 32 - THe HDR Series
by Philip JohnsonUS$4.28–US$114.00
BEST VIEWED LARGER Big City ,even Bigger sky, taken at sunrise on a simply perfect morning, just look at that sky Berrys Bay is located on the Northern shore of Sydney Harbour . The harbour has many bays and tributaries. Berrys Bay /Balls Head Reserve can be reached by train from the city, you alight at Waverton Railway Station. The former BP Berry’s Bay bulk fuel storage and distribution terminal is located on the cliffs and foreshore area of Balls Head/Waverton Peninsula approximately 1.6 km northwest of the Sydney CBD. The site was operated by BP Australia as a fuel storage and distribution facility from the early 1920s. BP’s operations ceased in 1993 and the tanks were demolished in the mid 1990s. Premier Bob Carr announced in 1997 that this site, together with the Coal Loader and Caltex Sites on the other side of the peninsula would be preserved as Public Open Space It now has been returned to the public, as part of Sydney Harbour National Park, as you can see it is a magical site with wonderful panoramic views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge , Sydney Opera House (you can see under the bridge) the Sydney Skyline. Thank god governments make some good decisions returning open spaces to the people not the Developers. And yes England did send convicts to Australia for punishment Equipment used : Nikon D300, Nikon 18-200mm lens, no filters and processed using Photomatix My continuing journey into HDR continues !

I've been teaching myself how to do paper cuts
by Natalie Perkins/ This was just playing …
/ This was just playing with a few different things, and my first attempt at cutting designs into paper. This piece was thick watercolour paper so I blunted two blades! / On my second attempt I tried to organise my design better. It’s hard to successfully translate my paisleys into this technique but I’ll keep trying. I used craft card and it was SO thick! / It casts rad shadows! / And for this one I folded the sheet in half and placed a silhouette over the cut out designs. It’s a very good technique to do if you want to exercise your awareness of negative and positive space. I could keep doing it all night except I have developed horrible sore calluses on my fingers! / I just did this one before and decided to add it here :)
