  • Sitting Blue
    by Hena Tayeb

    US$4.32–US$98.80

While we were roadtripping through New England one of our first stops was in Essex, Connecticut. The season was fall and our intention was to take in the wonders of nature, enjoy the fall foilage. In Essex we bought tickets for the Essex Steam Train and Riverboat. When we got to the ticket counter it turned out that the train had been reserved for a private party and not open to the public on that day but since it was just the two of us ( my husband and I) they said they would give us a private car. If you still haven’t figured it out well the private car looked like what you see above. It had this antique feel about it, reminded me of a time when these trains were the means of tranportation, nothing like the trains we have today. And then every once in a while the steam train would let out a tut. It was enchanting. The blue of the chairs so cool, so lush, the sun streaming in. A perfect stop on what turned into a perfect trip. / Sitting the old Fashioned Way

Part of a wall fixture at The Toff In Town, Melbourne. I was out seeing a local artist here tonight. The room is small and intimate, with red dim lighting making the plush padded walls stand out like artwork itself. Couldn’t help myself. To go with Gordon Merrick Justice’s poem We, the Monolith of Ages which was written for the Gay Themed Art and Writing group collaboration. You can find it here If I were light of heart at least, I’d find a way to slay the beast / The beast of life not fit to live, the monster pride was born to give. Yet often along this rocky climb, I’ve found humans flawed, yet so divine / Indeed these seem not to want to kill, the love and passion I would instill So though I am not yet an adult, I will still act as though I know / The right and the righteous ways to find the beautiful, willing and thus divine Among these sorrows, large and small are triumphs who redeem us all / And so hold your ground, whoever, whether man or mice / Black, Latino, gay or white as ice for color matters not in this This battle of the ambrosial wish, this small rebellion, this honored drive / To allow the color to survive Within all people, good, bad or lost / To heal all sorrow worth the cost Of losing part of who we are / To give them new life / Is better by far.

  • This could be one of the most comforting paintings to look at. The relaxed atmosphere and mutual appreciation really transferred into this painting / We must have started around 11pm, it seemed like only a few hours of work, but when I looked up it was already light, lost in creation. I deepened the shadows and the purples A few days later, the resulting is this captured moment in time.. the original painting is 120×90 cm / See more of my work on byrontik.com

This is from a life drawing study at a sketch group I regularly attend. I was influenced by Japanese artists of the 1930’s such as Toraji Ishikawa. It is traced from a pencil study on cartridge paper onto watercolour paper. (Fabriano medium pressed) and the outline is reinforced in pencil after I painted the watercolours.
