  • Fisherman's Berg
    by Kevin Kroeker

    US$6.65–US$152.00

Canon 400D / Iceberg season is offically upon us for another year. This was the first Iceberg of the season for me. It was a very foggy and drizzly day, but these bergs were well worth venturing out in the weather. / / From the Northern tip of Labrador down to the eastern coast of Newfoundland, the sea that pounds and caresses these shores is nicknamed Iceberg Alley. Bergs born 10,000 years ago on the Greenland icecap dance along the coast and far out to sea, propelled unpredictably by wind and tide, tumbling, twirling, and breaking into fantastic shapes before melting in the warm waters of the gulf stream. / / An iceberg’s journey down Iceberg Alley begins once it breaks off from the edges of Greenland’s glaciers. Dropping into the ocean, it is gripped by the Labrador Current and carried through the dark ocean along the coasts of Newfoundland and Labrador. In the past, during certain times of the year, the alley has been thick with the largest and most beautiful icebergs found anywhere in the world. They glide majestically along, alone or in groups, obscuring the horizon with their tall, jagged silhouettes. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / / More in this series / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography

... but I might explore the theme of the elements, air, water, wind & fire. Acrylic on Canvas. I needed a break from all the red on the Cossack painting and thought I’d just play today. : ) I think this is finished but I’ll probably come back and sharpen up a few ares when it’s dry enough to rest my hand on it. It’s difficult getting those nice sharp lines when your hand is in mid air! seems to work as a mounted print quite nicely.

  • I came across this photo that I had forgotten about. I took the shot in NYC while passing a store. It was the display window. I desaturated it to B&W and added a bit of color and more darkness for an eerie sort of feeling—-as if it really is a doll factory. It’s as if it’s the future…HUMAN CLONES in the making. / It has a sort of CURRENT ISSUES feeling…and so I am adding this image to my CURRENT ISSUES Group. Yikes….Cloning. Would you like a clone of yourself? Actually, if I could…I’d make a baby clone of me. Yes. :)

  • If you prick us do we not bleed? If you tickle us do we not laugh? If you poison us do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge? -Shakespeare Every year sealers bludgeon seals with clubs and “hakapiks” (clubs with a metal hook on the end), drag conscious seals across the ice floes with boat hooks, and toss dead and dying animals into heaps and leave their carcasses to rot because there is no market for their meat. Seals are also shot, but bludgeoning is preferred, because pelt buyers deduct money for every bullet hole in a seal’s skin. Veterinarians who studied a past hunt concluded that the hunters failed to comply with Canada’s basic animal welfare standards and that 42 percent of the seals appeared to have been skinned alive. Despite Canada’s ‘new and improved’ methods being implemented this year, sealers are still slaughtering these pups in the same way they have for previous years. It’s unconscionable. For more information, please visit any of the following websites for first-hand accounts and ways you can help save the seals.
