My grand daughter at the local playground recently. She had been watching a group of teenagers sitting nearby and watched them so intently as they walked by. / /
This gorgeous young girl in Vietnam just couldn’t work out what I was doing – just wish I’d been able to take the shot when her face lit up when she saw her image on the back of the camera. Amazing how photography can break down language barriers when you’re travelling
Inspired by Sarah Mclachlan – Arms of the Angels created in memory of little Alexis / I decided to find a way to use her in some of my writing and my art. It was a way for me to keep the memory of her allive. And the only way to give her life in this world where she no longer has one. Always curious, Alexis was a beautiful child. Though not my own, I watched over her for half her life, as her caregiver in a daycare, and as a friend after hours for her mother while she went to school some nights and weekends. I will never forget the little girl with such a strong will and big heart. I loved her like she was my own. I remember one of the things she would always say after her mother left her off in the mornings was “so proud my mommy.” / On the day she died, that morning she actually changed it a bit adding ” IM so proud of my mommy “ / And that evening, when her mom left to get things together for them in a separate room, so they could leave, Alexis started crying and became very frantic. It was almost as if she knew that something would happen once they left. I know that it is not a healthy thing to hate, or to feel so much anger toward someone, but no matter how hard I try, I doubt I will ever be able to forgive the driver that hit them that night as they got off the bus. The car hit them both, because her mother was carrying her. Alexis was only 2 1/2. And her mother, being so young herself, was left hospitalized for a couple months, and unable to ever have children again… Wether it was a fluke, or something else, I will never know, but at 11:47 pm when Alexis died, I woke to my radio clicking on playing a song by Sarah Mclachlan – Arms of the Angels, and I remember feeling so sad, but as of yet had not heard the news. It came on again at 5:25 am and I remember clicking it off quickly, not wanting to feel that sadness again. As usual I went to turn on the early morning news right then, but when I did what I saw that moment devistated me. My friend Ana called me moments later begging me not to turn on the TV but by then it was already too late. / The song was playing again on the radio on all the stations no matter what station we turned to on our way 2 days later to the funeral home.

“Curiosity … endows the people who have it with a generosity in argument and a serenity in their own mode of life which springs from their cheerful willingness to let life take the form it will.” ~Alistair Cooke

Curiosity might kill the cat, but not me, well, at least not yet anyway…Yup, that’s me and my shadow! This old root cellar was muddy as all get out. I hadn’t planned on filming this abandoned old building, but I felt as if I was led to it. That morning, I put on my hiking shoes and took a flashlight with me, without a second thought. The old, rusty cellar doors opened up quite easily. Once propped up, down I went. Inside I sloshed around in the mud, having fun as always on my surprise adventures. If I had my high top hiking shoes on, I probably would have done some good slip sliding away! Oh well, maybe another time? The interior was filled with old, rustic beams, crumbling plaster that revealed old stone walls and brick walls as well. Random width floors were evident as I looked up at the ceiling. Old boots were lying in the mud, making me wonder who wore once wore them. There was some electrical wiring, but it was archaic at best, indicating to me that this building had not been used for many decades. Despite the fact that this building is abandoned and decaying, it was still quite beautiful to me. I love history and when I see the craftsmanship of the past, all done by hand, I am always spellbound! This photograph was shot with a Canon 40D in Exton, Pennsylvania. The image has been altered to add a little bit more texture with a painted dry brush effect.
Our dog Precious closely watching the ducks in our pasture. This was taken soon after Precious had been groomed and her hair cut short so she wouldn’t get too hot this summer or get any burs in her long fur
Meet Belle. She is a wild kangaroo I got very close to on this occasion. I was lying in the grass in front of her enticing her with apple pieces. She was only a bit larger than a joey here and actually still quite small. She now has a joey of her own, and has gotten much more used to me feeding her. Kangaroo Island, Australia. Kangaroos here are different to the rest of Australia. Australia has red and grey kangaroos, but these (which are probably a type of grey) range in colour from blond to a dark chocolate and their fur is thick and long compared to the outback roos. They are much more cuddly looking :) This image won me a prestigious award on deviantART – a “DD” or “Daily Deviation” in the nature category.
This beautiful child was playing with my daughter. “May I make a picture with you ?” I asked. She did’nt answer, but only stopped playing with her balloon and gave me that beautiful glance.
