Let’s get funky this week with / jemimalovesbigted / !http://images-1.redbubble.com/img…

Let’s get funky this week with / jemimalovesbigted / and some Jello Cups / Mm. Tasty. :o) Are these in fact jello cups, or was it a pattern first that you named after the fact? What inspires your designs? Is it random discovery or do you set yourself goals? I was born in the late 70’s so by the time I was old enough to realise what was going on we had hit the 80’s, the era of bad hair and fluorescent socks (oh and don’t think it looks good now kids just cause its being re-hashed)… It never sat well with me. Bell bottoms, short skirts, peace, love and mung beans kept calling me back to the 70’s where the patterns were big and lairy and the polyester revolution was born. I love the fashion, the music, the energy of that time, so when I go to design a pattern, inevitably I get lulled back to those over the top styles and especially the colours. That is where my main inspiration comes from. As for the name Jello cups, well when that pattern evolved on screen, that is what popped into my head… I usually enjoy naming them all after creation, and it is part of the fun… I try and make sure the name reflects my inspirations for example Bond Lounge and Setting Sail on the Seas of Retropolis / / What have been some patterns you’ve noticed over your lifetime? Ooooh many patterns occur throughout life, like the pattern of being eternally broke, or the pattern of idiocy that keeps bringing shows like Big Brother and Today Tonight on to the telly… Or what about the pattern of apathy that stops us from moving forward in trying to undo some of the wrongs that we have committed towards the environment and humanity… I should stop there, I am getting all excited. How did you find the bubble? What made you stick around and get active? I was surfing the web one day and I can’t remember exactly which site I was on, but an advert popped up, or was there, about this new site launching in the near future for artists called RedBubble and all you had to do was promise them your first born son – no actually it was just my email address to be notified of when the site was up and running… So I received an email telling me RedBubble was live and I signed up. I think it was the first day. I stuck around because I was really excited by Peter’s vision and thought it was an absolutely marvellous idea for artists to be able to peddle their wares, and help to get a name for themselves. When I signed up I think there were like 15 people and I was immediately sucked in by “Paul Vanzellas”: http://www.redbubble.com/people/paul beautiful photography. His urban landscapes blew my mind. I know its cliché but it is so true. He and so many other people on this site are such an inspiration… like Sparklehen who you will all be so familiar with by now, Natalie Perkins who creates the most gorgeous curvy women integrated with heavenly patterns and wonderful paisleys, the best you will EVER see. “Juilee Pryor”: http://www.redbubble.com/people/juileep who has a way with a camera and film unlike any other (like a camera whisperer or something) and Chelsgus who is an amazing painter and she uses the most delicious pallets around. Why would I go anywhere else?? P.S. there are so many more I wish I could fit you all in. / / What’s your favouritest t-shirt you’ve ever worn? Haha Favouritest is the best word ever by the way =) …. Ummm it is now a toss-up between this one, this one and “this one”: http://www.redbubble.com/people/stuartm65/clothing/766511-2-i-fuckin-love-colouring-uk-spelling that made my partner and I laugh so hard and for so long, I just had to get it! And everyone here loves gratuitous RedBubble advertising right?! …It is actually true, I was not much of a t-shirt wearer before this lil’ community started up, and there are so many more that I want to get… For example this one is next on the list =P What did you want to be when you were 5 years old? Why? I don’t know, 6 years old… But from about 8 on I was addicted to drawing. I used to copy the characters out of Archie comics. So for as long as I do remember I wanted to be something creative, but that changed as I grew from being just an “artist” to a photographer, then to a film director. I didn’t end up being a world famous film director but I am pretty happy I have pursued my passion for photography and drawing, just now I draw on a computer instead. / What are the most inspiring things you’ve seen/heard of this year thus far? I find inspiration all the time from many people and situations, but I would have to say the MOST inspiring thing I have heard/seen this year hands down is Kevin Rudd’s apology to the Native people of Australia. I think that a collective exhalation of breath happened on 13 Feb. It was a very long time coming and it really made me feel excited about living in Australia again, it seems that I did not feel comfortable here under the rule of the short man with big eyebrows. How’s the next ten years looking? Busy, Busy, Busy! I really wonder what I used to do with my time before I had a child… I plan on finishing my degree – FINALLY and hopefully getting my design business really up and running. It only plods along at the moment (through choice) I have a few little plans up my sleeve on how to make some extra cash through being creative as well, but I am not giving all my secrets away…* Note see question 9 =) How could a sunny Sunday afternoon become the most awesome sunny Sunday afternoon ever? Ooooh a live band or ten somewhere outside with all my friends sitting back enjoying the sunshine, the music and the company… Oh and there should be loads of yummy food and nice wine included with that scenario. Or Jesus, Moses, Mohamud, Hubbard, Bealzebub, Shiva/Visnuet al, Krisna and etc …. all together in a jello ring battling it out for world supremacy and domination. My money is on Buddha, he could give some major belly bumps with that gut! Can you invent something for us the world might need? I actually already have but I really can’t tell cause then someone might steal the idea. Sorry! / / Got heroes? Yeah! The whole first and second series…. I can’t wait till series 3 starts. =P Me either. Me either… :oP Thanks Jemima! As always, tune in next week folks for more shirty goodness! I feel as a cup must feel. Day after day, being drained of everything it had. Its essence sucked dry or left to slowly patter against the stainless steel sink. It feels empty. It may sit there, only because no one is there to move it, waiting for the chance to be full again. But it’s never the same. Never the same as before, and always, the cup is left with nothing, maybe a drip of what it had still lingering down on the bottom. I feel as a cup must feel, being used and reused again. Met with thirsty kisses and the stain of saliva and whatever was left inside it settling on the rim. Kept hidden in the cupboards, forgotten; remembered only when wanted and when actually taken out, never really acknowledged. If it shatters, there will be no funeral, no requiem. Just another one to take its place. There always is. It probably thought it was something special, porcelain and new. But there is no rarity in its existence, save for the fine china on display just feet from where that cup now rests, sad and painfully untouched. The fine china is pristine and unaffected, admittedly fond of its chastity, knowing at least that when it is deflowered, it will be in the splendor of wine, champagne and fine liqueur. The cup knows not of such fragile beauty, whored as an everyday commodity, groped and used and washed afterwards, as if to claim how dirty it must be to have been used in such a way…

Hello to the world-wide members of RedBubble. What’s happenin’ over there where you are? Us Melbournians have Cup Fever today – yep it’s Melbourne Cup Day. The one day on the calendar where many place their only bet on the nags. Millions of hard-earned dollars will be lost due to an inability to fathom the form guide. Don’t ask me for a tip – I have NFI. Well, okay. Back the favourite. Put your house on it. Happy punting.

The Melbourne Cup horse race provides perfect opportunity for much of the local workforce to declare an unofficial bludge day on the Monday preceding Cup Day. Most employees will sheepishly report to their employers that they’ve contracted a mystery 24 hour virus. For many, they seem to traditionally contract a virus on the first Monday in November, as it provides ideal opportunity to study the form guide. The Melbourne Cup is run and won on the first Tuesday in November, but it’s the Monday that’s become as much as a tradition as Cup Day itself. Switched-on employers are becoming increasingly aware of this ‘Monday Phenomenon’ and stay close by the phone to answer the flood of expected calls. My best wishes are extended to all who are feeling a little off-colour today, and I trust you’re feeling better by tomorrow morning in readiness for a chicken and champagne breakfast. Now to my red-hot tip for Cup Day; / The fillies at the track are short-priced favourites to kick-off their stilettos by 4pm due to being sozzled near the mounting yard. Get well soon.

I have an ebook out today, the coffee and toast inspired When the Cup Is Empty Rather proud of this one as I wrote it over Easter for a crime story challenge which had to include a beverage, distraction, the crime of course, some reference to easter … and something else I can’t quite remember. It also fitted neatly into the Morningside series and hints at the next one. There’s always a next one! cover: kseriphyn designs / Available through Mystic Moon Press and Fictionwise (shortly).

Twice a day, I enjoy a lovely cup of tea. Placing the tea bag into the mug, I fill the mug half way with fresh water. I then microwave it for three minutes. To cool it, it is topped off with more fresh water. I do not stir it. Today, my daughter called my attention to the heart shape on top of the tea. She also noticed that above it looked like writing, perhaps Merlin she proposed. I laughed, took a photo, and thought it would be interesting to share here. Let me know what you think, LOL! Portsmouth lifted the FA Cup for the f…

Portsmouth lifted the FA Cup for the first time since 1939 after Kanu proved to be their hero once again in a 1-0 win over Cardiff at Wembley. / The gangly Nigerian striker scored the goal which earned Pompey a 1-0 win over West Brom in the semi-final – and he pounced after 37 minutes of Saturday’s final with the Bluebirds, stabbing home from close range after Peter Enckelman had spilled a right-wing cross from John Utaka. / Kanu also wasted the game’s other clear-cut chance on 22 when he rounded Enckelman and Glenn Loovens before hitting the upright from a tight angle. / And it was defender Loovens who went closest to an equaliser for Dave Jones’ troops, chipping the ball into the net on 45 only to see referee Mike Dean rule the goal out for a handball offence. / Robbie Fowler was not even named in Cardiff’s squad as Sulley Muntari had the first chance of the game, seeing his 30-yard deflected strike saved. / Paul Parry was denied by David James’ interception as Cardiff responded, and the England keeper blocked Parry’s shot minutes later before Kevin McNaughton saw a deflected strike trickle inches wide of the upright. / Muntari then set up Kanu on 22 minutes but he lost his composure after brilliantly beating Loovens and Enckelman, sidefooting a left-footed shot against the upright with the goal at his mercy. / Peter Whittingham’s free-kick found Roger Johnson as Cardiff more than held their own, but his header flew inches over the crossbar with James beaten. / Kanu then found the net from four yards out after Utaka’s cross was spilled, and Pompey took their narrow lead into the interval. / After the break, Lassana Diarra’s charging run set up Kanu, whose goalbound shot was deflected for a corner by Loovens on 53. / Muntari let fly from 30 yards but his thunderbolt rose just over the bar, and sub David Nugent stung Enckelman’s hands with an angled 18-yard drive on 71. / Jones sent on Steve Thompson for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink but it was Joe Ledley who went closest, firing a 25-yard effort over the crossbar. / Kanu was replaced by Milan Baros on 87, leaving the pitch to a standing ovation. And the Pompey fans were cheering once again at the final whistle, as they celebrated Wembley glory and securing a UEFA Cup place. Report taken from www.sportinglife.com

Took a long lunch today, to duck over the river to the Brisbane writers festival, on waiting for the train at South Brisbnae station I scrawled some random thoughts down into my little book. I met you for a poetry reading / on lunch / Les Murray, older, fatter and not much balder / than the photograph backing his books / mirror image above us / walled in by hundreds of tea cups / quietly sitting in saucers / every now and then a noisy bike or truck / whines or grumbles behind us / I kissed you as you left to catch the ‘fairy’ back to work / leaving with a glaze of blushed berry on your lips.

Other than that, I do spend my evenings, nights & weekend with non-stop painting and I felt great, over the moon, with sheer joy, no stress at all.. What inspires you to paint? Perhaps the helpless people in the society forced me to paint love art. I am completely chuffed about this as there was some great work to choose from, and somehow or other my piece got picked! Just wanted to say thanks to my new redbubble friends who have been supporting me so well. I feel very welcome in this little community. It’s so nice to get that little bit of recognition, just makes my day when people comment on my work or favourite it. No sales yet, but I’ll keep trying :). Now that really would give me a buzz. Cul De Sac Cup Final – many games won and lost on the hallowed tarmac turf Written for 13 year old Son Calvin Player of the year / Knighted…..A Sir / Even my teachers cannot believe / That at the age of 13 my team won the league. I’ve got skills that can’t be matched / all from the garden of a semi-detached. / He calls to his mum “I’m going out for a while” / As the front door now becomes a turnstile The driveway and road turn into the ground / of his favourite team where his hero’s are found. / He stretches out and limbers up / today’s the day that he lifts the cup. “Be back in an hour it’ll be time for tea” / “Oh Mum!!!! The whole stadium is now looking at me! / Mum, next time give a note to the coach Roy, / Instead of announcing it over the stadium tannoy!” As she goes back indoors the stadium reappears / And when the crowd sees me I’m deafened by cheers. / The whistle blows and I tear up the grass / My fans get louder Beckham shouts “Cal…Pass!” Side-step a bike and right round the car / Line up the shot; it’s bound to go far. / It leaves my foot and my face turns white / As I follow the ball the day turns to night Behind the goal, I forgot it was there / It’s not my fault honest, I can feel all of the glares. / Why didn’t I just go for the pass? / As ball hits window and smashes the glass. The stadium vanishes revealing the damage / My Mum glares through, a shout she can’t manage / “Do you know how much this is going to cost me?” / “Wait!!! Can’t you take it out of my signing on fee??” Dragged by the ear and sent to my bed / The offensive weapon is thrown in the shed / “It’s not all bad coz I skipped having a bath” / I tell my pal Beckham and we both start to laugh
