  • Am I allowed to do this? Had to do it, While I had to get up at 0245GMT for work and drive my trains, my wife Donna, went on a church walk with the boys as well to Elterwater in the English lake district and she took my pride and joy, only cause I know she has the eye! and she helps me bin the rubbish shots I have taken, she’s learnt from me and yes I was sweating that she took my camera, so this is one of her shots, I processed it in HDR style to get the most detail, I am pretty proud of her, I think she has done a great job of this shot, no cropping whatsoever, well spotted, well I am congratulating her anyway.here’s Donnas shot.

  • Abbey Trees, Shap
    by Richard Ion

    US$3.42–US$91.20

Just delving back a few years to a picture from Shap Abbey in Westmorland (now Cumbria) and on the eastern borders of the Lake District. More details of this wonderful abbey will follow if and when I get round to putting up some pictures! / However, as is so often the case with our treasured abbeys, the location of Shap Abbey is such a potent part of the whole experience. As you stroll towards the west tower you pass by the River Lowther with the blur of a dipper coming to rest on a stone to “dip” up and down before plunging into the rushing waters, whilst above, on the bank, trees, gnarled with age and battered by the harsh climate cling on to life for hundreds of years watching patiently as the abbey slowly returns to Nature’s grasp. / Thanks for looking, / Richard

  • Castlerigg Stone Circle.
    by TallGuy

    US$3.42–US$91.20

Ok.. it’s only part of the stone circle.. to be quite honest I’m pleased to have this photo. For me it seemed to be one of those days, nothing seemed right photowise. It was another enjoyable meet with Robert Hardy, I’m guessing and hoping his shots turned out better than mine :-) The Extract below was taken from Wikipedia… Wilkipedia “The stones are of a local metamorphic slate, set in a flattened circle, measuring 32.6m (107ft) at its widest and 29.5m (97ft) at its narrowest. The heaviest stone has been estimated to weigh around 16 tons and the tallest stone measures approximately 2.3m high. There is a 3.3m wide gap in its northern edge, which may have been an entrance. Within the circle, abutting its eastern quadrant, is a roughly rectangular setting of a further 10 stones. The circle was probably constructed around 3200 BC (Late Neolithic/Early Bronze-Age), making it one of the earliest stone circles in Britain and possibly Europe, too. It is important to archaeoastronomers who have noted that the sunrise during the Autumn equinox appears over the top of Threlkeld Knott, a hill 3.5km to the east. Some stones in the circle have been aligned with the midwinter sunrise and various lunar positions.” MY OLD STANDING STONES SET

  • Along Haweswater
    by Jason Connolly

    US$3.71–US$98.80

Haweswater reservoir in the English lake district. Haweswater is now one of the largest lakes at 4 miles long and 1/2 mile wide, and has a maximum depth of 200 feet . It is the most easterly of the lakes, and has no settlements on its shores. In 1929, despite many petitions against it, a bill was passed by Parliament authorising the use of Haweswater as a reservoir for Manchester. A concrete dam, 1550 feet wide and 120 feet high was built, and this raised the lake level by 95 feet. All the farms and houses of the villages of Mardale and Measand, and the Dun Bull Inn were pulled down. Coffins were removed from the graveyard, and buried elsewhere, and Mardale church was demolished. At times of drought, when the water level is low, many people go back to see what is left of the village of Mardale.

  • Morning, Loweswater.
    by TallGuy

    US$3.42–US$91.20

I only took a few shots of Loweswater Lake as this was just the starting point of my meet with Rob Hardy. As it turned out, I should have probably taken more time and effort at the lake side as we aborted our lakeside ascent because of poor visibility for taking landscape shots. Lots wrong with this shot, but it was the best of the bunch and the green surface of the lake just lifts the shot IMHO :-)
