This Mimosa Tree blossom is not only an attraction to Butterflies and Hummingbirds, but it is so delicate and so colorful and it’s like a Mini – fireworks display – nothing short of an explosion of color! this tree came as a volunteer and was not even noticed for a few years…......my friend Bonnie Barry wrote a story once about a volunteer Mimosa Tree and has graciously consented to my using it along with this image….Bonnie, Thank you!!! All the best, Bonnie Mimosa While I was watering the wilted caladiums near my angel statue, I looked up and noticed the mimosa in all its glory. Here I was working diligently to make the caladiums grow, yet there it stood, radiant without human effort. How many other plants had I set in this same spot through the years? The angel’s trumpet . . . impatiens . . . . those unusual little two-tone flowers whose names I can’t remember. All of them curled up and died. The soil was awful here; roots were knotted through the area; the trees sapped all the moisture. I’d wasted many a dollar on this spot, yet there was the mimosa looking down on me in gentle amusement. I had not planted the mimosa. I had never tilled the soil for it. I had not even watered it through the three-year drought. Yet three years ago it had been little more than a naked stick poking from the ground. The only reason it stayed put was that it was too close to the hurricane fence for Tommy to lop it as he mowed. The mimosa was a gift, a pure gift from God. I couldn’t claim any part in its flourishing. Either God’s wind had blown its seed to this corner or God’s birds had unwittingly deposited it. Only the miracle of nature could have made it grow like this without human care or cultivation. Yet now it produced all the color and vibrancy, all the grace and beauty that I had tried to achieve through the years with no success at all. / How like my life, I thought. Sometimes all my strained efforts are fruitless, yet in the midst of the sterility, God drops a single word, a single thought, and everything is suddenly alive and beautiful. Apart from Him, I can do nothing, yet I work like a Trojan to do it anyway. Maybe the gifts are rewards for my efforts, and maybe they are just freely given out of pure love. Who knows? The inner depths of a Moon Flower with a blue tint. If you need a bit of relaxing, just enlarge this image and submerge yourself into the depths of it; it really works! There is something about the calming effect of the color blue, and being enveloped in this luscious flower blossom does the trick for me! I actually took this in a bowl of water, on my kitchen table….the light was just coming through the window a bit and it added a little “glow” to the blossom…....this is taken with a Canon A640, 10 megapixel….....hope you enjoy it as much as I. My husband’s paternal grandmother, Tootsie, died at the age of 95. She had a sound mind and sound body and an enduring love for gardening, something she cultivated till she breathed her last. Before she died, she gave her grandchildren amaryllis bulbs and to this day, many many years after her passing on, we still have the fruits of her labors. This is one of Tootsie’s amaryllis bulbs that is about to burst into bloom, many springs after her death.

Waterville, Washington I live near a place that has old barns and homesteads still standing out in the middle of open fields. I am hopelessly addicted to photographing these ghostly structures from the late 1800’s/early 1900’s. The element that is missing from viewing this, is the absolute spooky silence that envelopes you like a blanket while standing there.

Just finished this historical journey through the cultural and tribal advances and achievements of a prehistoric people called the “ANASAZI” – pronounced ah-nah-Sah-zee, as my granddaughter gets ready to journey there and other parts of the Southwest.

There are many groups, clubs and societies and over 20,000 varieties. Many orchids have succulent characteristics. They store water and nutrients in pseudobulbs, leaves and/or other parts of their anatomy. Fresh orchids and other tropical flowers create a unique tropical atmosphere perfect for a traditional or modern wedding theme here on Maui and are very beautiful woven into Haku Lei. Hardy terrestrial orchids include some the rarest & showiest perennials for the garden. These deciduous plants are indigenous to the temperate zones Eurasia and North America. They require woodland conditions for cultivation, preferring shade to part-shade and rich, well-draining soil; somewhat moist. Hardy orchids bloom at 3 – 6 years of age, depending upon the species. I believe the correct name for this gardenia is Gardenia lamingtonia. / Two forms are known, a large flower and a smaller. / G. tubifera is five petaled and has wider, ovate petals with downturned tips. From sepals to bloom face its throat measures 3-4 inches. It is a small tree from up to 15 feet with infrequent, sparse blossom set. G. lamingtonia grows to 20 feet with very heavy bloom set every 2-3 months in Hawai’i. An outstanding and beautiful Gardenia from Thailand cultivated here on Maui. They open with rich creamy white single flowers which turn bright orange as they age. It is a great bloomer that is in full display twice a year on the islands. It has a beautiful fragrance. They must be kept from cold and need full sun to bloom best. These large shrub is growing naturalized in Lower Nahiku. / It is a rare collectible plant. A 4 ” pot will cost from $18.00 to $30.00. Some of the flowers are up to 4” wide. This large, rounded shrub can be trained into a small tree, maintainable to a height under 10 feet. Acid, organic and fertile soil are necessary for healthy plants They produce large, single golden yellow flowers. Flowers change colour while maturing from ivory through golden yellow to orange-yellow. The wonderful fragrance is very strong. They bloom in spring onward. This oil is used as an antiseptic and for aromatherapy as well as for making other products such as moisturizers , hand creams. Lavender is also used extensively as herbal filler inside sachets used to freshen linens and discourage moths from closets and drawers.
