This piece is from my cubist collection. I love cubism and I have my own way with it. I think cubism should be as fun as possible, because it’s a fun style. It’s also a complicated way to paint, and hats off to any artist out there making the attempt. / Painting cubism is such a unique state of awareness that an artist can become completely immersed in the process of painting it. Jestor Comes to Dinner was a nonsensical statement about the chaotic nature of meeting new people. I wanted it to convey the possibility of all the fun and adventure of unexplored social beginnings. I always value the days when I encounter someone new and interesting. That’s what this painting is about for me. / While this is oil on canvas, I brought together several different brush techniques to achieve the subject matter. For some reason, I didn’t paint for 6 weeks after painting this one. That never happens. I hope this painting makes people smile a little, life is too short to be taken so seriously all the time.

From my cubism collection. Something about a woman and a giant lizard playing guitar together must have needed to come out of me. I think it’s good not to dwell on why things are the way they are. I had fun painting this one, but it was the most complicated thing I’ve ever done. If you look closely at this painting, you can see the lizard and the woman playing this guitar together. Everyone knows that lizards like to play guitar alone, but I thought it would be okay to take this liberty. This is a large painting, and is currently on display at Merrill Lynch. Rock on fellow lizards.

The original is 42×32 in acrylic and mixed media (including metallic and porcelain paint) on canvas; sealed with wax. / In this piece my attempt was to create riveting color combinations and captivating eye movement. I used a variety of mediums to achieve a wet and dry look. Select portions of the canvas appear as wet paint and dramatically contrast the airy and light spaces, which does seam to make the “color float.” This was a commissioned project designed as a focal point to tie all of my client’s glass artwork collection together perfectly. My client was thrilled with the outcome and receives many generous compliments on this bold work. / Original SOLD / For commissioned work you can contact Carrie at: carrie@carrieglennstudios.com and please visit Carrie Glenn Studios /

I’m not sure about this one so I’d like your feedback, please. / / These steps are located in Darling Harbour, Sydney. They are one of the many water features in the area. / / It was really hard to get a good shot of them…this was the best one that I could come up with. It was a really bright and hot day so I used a polarising filter, an ND4 filter and an ND8 filter to try and get a longer exposure. / / Camera: FujiFilm FinePix S7000 / ISO200 / f/8 / 1/5 sec exposure / On my hands and knees getting strange looks from lots of tourists who were just prepared to stand over them and snap away..lol / / / /

Oil on canvas. Still life in ‘cubist’ style.

Picasso fans will recognize this as similar to “Girl Before A Mirror”. It was of course insired by that painting. This was done in blue and green colored pencils… it very much expressed how I was feeling at the time I did it.

This is a mixed media painting, initiated from a life study painting, produced on paper, then translated to a gessoed illustration board. The figure was cut apart and rearranged, then the resulting spaces were painted to compliment the initial form of the figure, and to create a unique composition. The woman is expressively posing, and “opening up”, like a flower blossom. I enjoyed the overall process of this piece, and the amazing movement of the form, the bright coloration, as well as the degree of depth within the simple design. The dimensions of the painting are 26in. X 20in. It was started a few years ago and cut up, then recently finished in 2008. / Stage 1- / / Stage 2- /

A recent oil on canvas…again exploring ‘cubism’ in landscape. Beloved gaze in thine own heart, / The holy tree is growing there; / From joy the holy branches start, / And all the trembling flowers they bear. / The changing colours of it’s fruit / Have dowered the stars with merry light; / The surety of it’s hidden root / Has planted quiet in the night; / The shaking of it’s leafy head / Has given the waves their melody, / And made my lips and music wed, / Murmuring a wizard song for thee. From W.B. Yeats…”The Two Trees”.

I shall be quite honest here, though I did inadvertently wow persons with an image of this nature before so I know it could pass the inspection of many: There is a site called Mr. Picasso Head, where you can build little Piccaso’esque images from templates. I did this. At which point, I consider it no better or worse than the people who use Adobe Photoshop brushes to make their digital “paintings” Mine are normally much more hands on, so to speak; but, it was a particular piece particularly made by me. However, while that was fun, that did not make me feel like it was mine. So I saved the image, opened it up in Corel Photopaint, and did much work with the alchemy function, layering, the puzzle tool, etc. Much, much work. Now it is mine. It was very fun to do, too!

This is a loose and colorful figure study painting, produced with acrylics on a heavyweight paper. The work was then cut up, which enhanced selected shapes. Here it is pieced together (as it was painted), and photographed against an illustration board. I wanted to capture the work at this stage before using the study in a more abstracted and cubistic, stylized painting. Please view the other pieces to see the development of the various creative processes involved with this work.

Now the work has been pulled apart and glued onto a gessoed illustration board. This created unique and interesting negative spaces, which have then been selectively outlined with india ink and a sable brush. I was really amazed with beauty of the central torso area, and the flowing lines around the neck and head.

cubism – information provided by wikipedia:
Cubism was a 20th century art movement, pioneered by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, that revolutionized European painting and sculpture, and inspired related movements in music and literature. The first branch of cubism, known as Analytic Cubism, was both radical and influential as a short but highly significant art movement between 1908 and 1911 in France. In its second phase, Synthetic Cubism, the movement spread and remained vital until around 1919, when the Surrealist movement gained popularity. In cubist artworks, objects are broken up, analyzed, and re-assembled in an abstracted form—instead of depicting objects from one viewpoint, the artist depicts the subject from a multitude of viewpoints to represent the subject in a greater context. Often the surfaces intersect at seemingly random angles, removing a coherent sense of depth. The background and object planes interpenetrate one another to create the shallow ambiguous space, one of cubism's distinct characteristics.RedBubble is a great place to find art, design, photos and writing from over 50,000 talented people.
