  • Topaz

Topaz is a common gemstone that has been used for centuries in jewelry. Its golden brown to yellow color is classic but is confused with the less valuable citrine, which is sold under the name topaz. The blue topaz that is often confused with aquamarine is rarely natural and is produced by irradiating and then heating clear crystals. Topaz is the November Birthstone. / The name “topaz” is derived from the Greek Τοπάζιος (Τοpáziοs), which was the ancient name of St. John’s Island in the Red Sea which was difficult to find and from which a yellow stone (now believed to be chrysolite: yellowish olivine was mined in ancient times; topaz itself (rather than topazios) wasn’t really known about before the classical era. In the Middle the name topaz was used to refer to any yellow gemstone, but now the name is only properly applied to the silicate described above. Many modern English translations of the Bible, including the King James Version mention topaz in Exodus 28:17 in reference to a stone in the Hoshen: “And thou shalt set in it settings of stones, even four rows of stones: the first row shall be a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle: this shall be the first row.” However, since these translations as topaz all derive from the septuagint translation topazi[os], which as mentioned above referred to a yellow stone that wasn’t topaz, probably chrysolite, it should be borne in mind that topaz is not meant here. The masoretic text (the Hebrew on which most modern bible translations of the Old Testament are based) has pitdah as the gem the stone is made from; pitdah is of unknown meaning, though scholars think it is related to an Assyrian word meaning flashed. There is a wide range of views among traditional sources about which tribe of the Israelites the stone refers to. Yellow topaz is the traditional November birthstone, the symbol of friendship, and the state gemstone for the US State of Utah. l have designed this as an idea for a pink crystal pendant. / It goes to show how Angels put people together…..On my weekend up on the 90 mile beach one of my favourite cousins bought his beautiful little boys to have a rest & a bit of adventure with his boys. NOW my cousin happens to be one of Melbournes most talented jewellers & as l have just begun the process of starting a flipteez foundation l thought this in a beautiful gift box could help raise money towards encouraging nurses to move to rural areas. l had so much trouble & in the end couldn’t get a nurse to come to my home to change my fluid bag, check in emotionally or dress the staples. Its ok because emotionally l got you guys & my beautiful family & as for changing the bag a wonderful nurse with fantastic advise showed me how to do it myself & did it whilst my youngest watched without blinking (all that grouss grosse stuff) Anyway hubby bumped into my local GP & she volunteered to come to my home & remove the tube OUCH & she knows me to check in emotionally too (can’t hide too much from her :) ANYWAY off l went confident & eager to be home with my boys. The next morning Hayden had a writing pad ready to note the amount of fluid, he got a new bag ready. l showed him once & he completed the lot all by himself & l crowned him my Doctor Deba that is until he asked “Muuuum can l please take it to school for show & tell that way l can grosse out the girls” / THATS MY BOY. A story l just had to share. / The next one l upload is the exact same thing but the funds go to mental Health Awareness maybe towards rural community programs we can do so much to help within our own communities. Creative nights companion programs tutoring for children in families dealing with cancer. / OH l gotta tell you this one Kane my 10 year old is working on starting his own little business called ‘Errand Boy’ Kane is allowed to do a letter drop just around our big block, many are senior citizens, mums who need milk first thing in the morning & mums with sick children. Letters can be posted, light grocery shopping can be done (l have a cool trolly) How cool is that :) My little entrepreneur / Jake is enjoying & working hard at his new KFC job The smiles are big so the girls are cute & hubby poor baby could sleep for a week. / Sorry for waffling l’ll blame it on the medication / but l am serious about doing my bit to raise awareness & funds to projects l am passionate & in the mean time maybe flipteez will bring in some pocket money too XXXXXXX
