  • A friend of mine blew-out her knee and had to get surgery on it. She is very into sports. The only doll I could find was a ballerina and I couldn’t leave her in her tutu…........ / . / SO…....I took a ballerina Barbie, put her in some of Ken’s clothes, cut her waist length hair (my friend’s hair is short), cut her leg with a xacto blade and stitched up the cut with a needle and thread and made her a crutch out of a chopstick (from rb tee) and rubber for the armpit padding. / . / I am going to send it to her with one of my Goldfish Funeral cards. I’m going to write…Things could always be worse! / . /

  • Featuring Harry (the hat) / This was the moment he spotted me and asked me to take some pics of him.

    Personal philosophy

  • This old man has leprosy; a desiese that attacks the nerves so that when you cut or burn yourslf you can’t even feel it. His fingers are now just stubs, and his leg is now plastic due to the years of it getting whittled down.

I was sitting tonight refelcting on this, which is I imagine true for many of us who are one eyed and mad about capturing the perfect moment, the perfect shot, the second, the instant, the light etc…. You may wonder why) my mind was going off on such a strange tangent. Well, late this afternoon, around 5.15, 5.20, I was outside and suddenly noticed the most amazing lighting effect as the waning sun shone through a nearby high window. So I raced inside, grabbed my camera (which was sitting on my collapsed tripod from earlier in the day), and went out to take a shot. So intent was I on capturing the light, I looked up as I was going out the door to see if it was still there (I think) and missed the step. / So, down I fell, crashing rather hard and twisting my ankle at a very strange angle. I also skinned one knee. / Amazingly I looked up and found my camera sitting neatly upright on the legs of the tripod on the grass in front of me!!! So my photographers instincts must have kicked in! Anyway, the sum of this long winded story is that I’ve just got home after spending endless hours at EMERGENCY, at the end of a long line-up of young injured football players. / They x-rayed my badly swollen and bruised ankle/foot but found no break. (Thank heavens) / So I’m home on crutches, with a strongly strapped fat foot and ankle. I guess there will be little outside shooting for me for a few days or so now. Ah…what price the perfect shot?

  • I don’t know where you’re going / I don’t know where you’ve been Darryl owed me some modeling after this and this. Thanks my dear.

  • We all need a little help sometime, and this moose head bridge is just awesome in that area! It can be used on all four sides, so there aren’t many unreachable shots you’ll encounter with this around. :)

  • In the religious system of Orishaworship, Babalu-Aye is the spirit of illness and disease. In Cuba, he has been syncretized with Saint Lazarus. / He governs epidemics and heals infectious diseases. Though originally associated with smallpox, many of today’s worshippers appeal to Babalu-Aye for healing from HIV/AIDs. / Sources tell us he walks on crutches — or possibly carries them. He also has two dogs. To snif out infection? / He will do his best against infections and epidemics. But like most doctors, Babalu-Aye is very overworked and understaffed. However, he will not say no to offerings of white wine and popcorn.

  • Back when the grand piano was first introduced to the desert climate there was much concern. Rightly so, there had been several independent tests conducted that showed less than promising results. / In many cases drooping occurred and even melting has taken place after a minimal exposure to the extreme heat, yet, here they are. Left here to fend for themselves. As I set up to shoot this sad sight / I saw, HIM. He appeared like a mirage, carrying an umbrella to shield himself from the deadly sun rays and had a bundle of sticks over his shoulder. I asked, “what are you doing out here?” He looked at me and said, “If you brace them, they will grow”. “A, WHAT?” “I said, If you brace them, they will grow, damn it!” I backed away / and sat down as he pulled out this tiny little pocket knife. I watched for hours in amazement as he carved, wood shavings flying everywhere, crutch by crutch, precisely placing each one around the piano to build back stability. After about 3 hours, 25 minutes and 12 seconds, he says, “My work here is done” and starts to walk away. I jumped up to shoot this amazing sight just before he disappears as fast as he arrived into a mirage. I never got his name, so, I just called him THE SOFT GRAND PIANO MAN and his legend lives on. Note: To help this great man continue his work donations are encouraged, Please Help! Make checks payable to Mike McGlothlen. Thank You!
