  • This photo has not been cross-processed properly, apparently. However, I’d never heard of cross-processing until recently. I’ve read that the term started by developing color print or slide film in the wrong chemicals – for example, color negative film in slide chemicals or slide film by the color negative process. This causes wild color and contrast shifts and requires lots of trial and error. for more, see Dana DiPasquale’s forum page. Apparently a group exists for cross-processing experts, as well. / / However, playing with the RGB channels certainly stretched my tendency for more realistic, staid photos! I played with this photo last night using Sue Wickham’s method and the tutorial that Mary Campbell posted. I used curves and RGB channels in Photoshop and Nikon’s Capture NX2.1 software. / / This is the Capture NX2 version, with a bit of a vignette blur from efex. • This is the church of St Winnow, which lies on the banks of the River Fowey, just below Lostwithiel in Cornwall, England. The church was featured in the 1977 BBC series of Poldark, which starred Anghard Rees and Robin Ellis, as Ross Poldark. This capture was shot in colour, but converted to B+W with an IR filter in CS3. I quite like the effect, and I hope you do too. / Thank you for looking. Best Viewed Large. Pentax K110D. / Pentax 18-55mm Lens.

  • In honour of the 11th day of the 11th month; the day that recalls the end of World War I, I fold 11 poppies from 15×15mm pieces of paper. The cross is also made from paper. Remembrance Day – also know as Poppy Day, Armistice Day or Veterans Day – is a day to commemorate the sacrifice of members of the armed forces and of civilians in times of war, specifically since the First World War. It is observed on 11 November to recall the end of World War I on that date in 1918. Source: Wikipedia The poppy’s significance to Remembrance Day is a result of Canadian military physician John McCrae’s poem “In Flanders Fields”. This poem has also been adapted as a song: In Flanders fields the poppies blow / Between the crosses, row on row / That mark our place; and in the sky / The larks, still bravely singing, fly / Scarce heard ‘mid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago / We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow / Loved and were loved, and now we lie / In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe / To you from failing hands we throw / The torch; be yours to hold it high. / If ye break faith with us who die / We shall not sleep / Though poppies grow / In Flanders fields. For a better idea of scale: / Taken Nov. 4, 2009 with an Olympus FE-340 / / / / Also available at Zazzle
