This is my version of a sign of the times. How we put our faith and hope into false symbols. An enlightened awakening of our narcissistic quest for personal gratification. It’s about good and bad, right and wrong and how it all means nothing in the end. My god what am I talking about?

The cross on the roof of St Mary’s Church in Inglewood Central Victoria
-
Stumbled across a Large white cross on the other side of the river from where I was shooting. Was early morning and was taking pictures of the frost in the trees. When this beautifull image caught my eye. Even in the early morning haze and cloud , the only place the sun is shinning is directly on the cross, you can see the light in the snow just to the right. I thought it was one of the most beautifull serene things I had ever seen. The cross is about 11 feet tall.

Mt 27:35: And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots Ga 2:20: I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. 1Corinthians 1:18: For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. / / Col 1:13: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: / Col 1:14: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: / / Ga 2:20: I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. 1Pe 2:21: For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: / 1Pe 2:22: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: / 1Pe 2:23: Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: / 1Pe 2:24: Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. I was working with a combination of an image I got several years ago from a newspaper story about the shroud of Turin. The original image was very poor and I had to recreate the face using the newspaper image as a model. Then I worked with I worked with Micrografx, Photoshop, Photomatrix and Apophysis to create the finished work. I experimented a little and got several works that I really like. I hope you enjoy them. Although we do not know what Christ really looked like because the Hebrew people did not draw or paint images of anyone because it was against their religion, we do have ideas we have formed based upon legend and theories that have been passed down through time and have become a generally accepted image that comes to mind when we think of Christ. This series is inspired by scripture from the Holy Bible. This is the fifth of nine in the series. Jesus Christ the Messiah never committed a sin or a crime in thought, word or deed. Nevertheless, they crucified Him. Scripture tells us they were blinded for the sake of the Gentiles. That had they not crucified Him, we would not have His righteousness by which we might escape the punishment for our sins. He willingly took our sins upon Himself…and gave us His righteousness to wear as a cloak, a wedding garment which cleanses us and imputes His righteousness upon us when we accept it as a free gift…the greatest gift of all, eternal life. Mission in San Diego, California, at sunset.

Inspired by the religious art of my visit to Italy in December 2007, i was compelled to create the depiction of the spiritual battle that is happening in our world… every second of every day. Someone is in a battle manifested in countless forms. But there is life and with life there is always hope. ‘The Battle’ is symbolic of the journey and the challenges faced to reach freedom. After we have fought the good fight there will be victory and as we fall to our knees, we are drawn to the One… who has saved us. Take the messages as they come to you. The aim was to create a universal piece of art that speaks the language of the heart. This vector artwork is currently not for sale but if you are interested i’d love to hear from you.

HERES THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTO! okay, so I’m not really a religious person, at all. But I do work at a christian preschool so one day I passed these crosses by a church and the sun was behind me and I thought it would be a cool photo to take for my boss :) okay…so here’s the creepy part. I pulled this picture up today (6 months later) and decided to photoshop it and give it to my boss. Well….I only gave it a little more yellow for the sunset….I didn’t put the “EYE” in the top right hand corner of my photo! creepy eh? What you think?

Digitally drawn church in a winter scene. The church door is open and musical notes were added to depict singing praise from within the church. A dog is watching from afar.

I thought about this verse from Psalm 34, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and the crushed in spirit He saves,” when I noticed the camellias Mama had cut for me fell from the vase during the night, leaving scattered heart-shaped petals on my kitchen counter. I hadn’t really noticed the shape of the petals until Charlotte Ottilo commented about them in previous photos I had posted. I would like to send special thoughts and prayers out to Bianca Thomas whose husband is critically ill and to reassure her that God is near her in her brokenheartedness and that He will guard and help her and her husband during these crushing times. (Postscript: the black speckly background in this photo is not my kitchen countertop; it’s a black sweater with metallic threads in it; I kind of like the starry night effect it lends to the picture).
