Purple sunset challenge This installation by Angel of the North Artist Antony Gormley consists of 100 life-size figures spread out along three kilometres of Crosby Beach near Liverpool, stretching almost one kilometre out to sea. Secured on three-metre-high foundation piles, the sculptures are solid cast iron, made from moulds of the artist’s own body. Your experience of the work will depend on the state of the tide, the weather conditions and the time of day you are visiting, with all the figures becoming completley submerged at particularly high tides. Another Place harnesses the ebb and flow of the tide to explore man’s relationship with nature. Antony Gormley says: ” The seaside is a good place to do this. Here time is tested by tide, architecture by the elements, and the prevalence of sky seems to question the earth’s substance. In this work human life is tested against planetary time. This sculpture exposes to light and time the nakedness of a particular and peculiar body, no hero, no ideal, just the industrially-reproduced body of a middle-aged man trying to remain standing and trying to breathe, facing a horizon busy with ships moving materials around the planet.”
I took another series of pictures of the Iron Men in Crosby, Liverpool. / I was very lucky with the weather. The sky was amazing.

I shot this dramatic black and white photograph on a bitterly cold and outrageously windy day last January. Crosby is on the Mersey Estuary north of Liverpool and has recently become famous as the venue of Anthony Gormley’s Another Place installation – the one with the army of iron men standing in the sea. The image shows the steps which run the length of this wonderful sandy beach, you can see the moody skies with a few seagulls being thrown around in in the far distance, the cranes of Liverpool Docks.
A collection of paintings including oils, pastel , acrylic and colour pencil, these include some reneditions of old masters which I like to copy ,and whom I admire,- as well as my original works make up a interesting calendar.

Statue / Anthony Gormley’s ‘Another Place’ near Liverpool UK
October 2009 / Shot at Sunrise at Crosby beach at Merseyside on a day out shooting with fellow bubbler pal Steve Smith / Another Place is a piece of modern sculpture by Antony Gormley. / Now permanently erected on Crosby Beach, England, it was due to be moved to New York, United States in November 2006, but there was a controversial proposal to retain the work at Crosby. It was recently stated in the local paper, the Crosby Herald, that they may stay for a decade, but at a meeting on 7 March 2007, Sefton Council accepted proposals that would allow the sculptures to be kept permanently at Crosby Beach. / The sculpture consists of 100 cast iron figures which face out to sea, spread over a 2 mile (3.2 km) stretch of the beach. Each figure is 189 cm tall (nearly 6 feet 2½ inches) and weighs around 650 kg (over 1400 lb). / In common with most of Gormley’s work, the figures are cast replicas of the artist’s own body. As the tides ebb and flow, the figures are revealed and submerged by the sea. The figures were cast by Joseph and Jesse Siddons Foundry in West Bromwich. / Another Place was first exhibited on the beach of Cuxhaven, Germany in 1997 and after that in Stavanger in Norway and De Panne in Belgium. / 5 shot HDR tonemapped image. / shot with a Nikon D300 and 18-70 mm lens. /
Apophysis fractal no postwork except cropping. It’s a two for one! I couldn’t decide which song I liked best, I’ve been a huge fan of Crosby, Stills and Nash forever and also the Grateful Dead. I like each tune equally!! So…... not to decide is to decide! heh heh Here’s Crosby, Stills & Nash’s Dark Star with some very cool fractal looping video, how apropos huh?! Lyrics: / Forgive me if my fantasies might seem a little shopworn / I’m sure you’ve heard it all before I wonder what’s the right form / Love songs written for you it’s been going down for years / But to sing what’s in my heart seems more honest than the tears I am curious / Don’t want to hurry us / I’m intrigued with us / Ain’t this song a bust / I don’t care dark star I met you several years ago / The times they were so strange but I had a feeling / You looked into my eyes just once / An instant flashing by that we were stealing Another time you felt so bad / And I wasn’t any help at all as I recall / We didn’t know quite what to do so we left the wanting be / Still there for me and you Dark star I see you in the morning / Dark star a’ sleeping next to me / Dark star let the memory of the evening / Be the first thing that you think of / When you open up your smile and see me dark star It’s easy to be with you / Even with the storms that rage beneath your search for peace / We must make some time together / Take the kids and find a world that’s ours to keep Now you’ve got me dreaming girl / It’s been so long that I thought that I’d forgotten how / My heart is once again my soul / We touched we did you know we did no more teasing now / / Chorus Let the memory of the evening / Be the first thing that you think of / When you open up your smile and see me dark star And then, here’s an awesome Grateful Dead jam called Dark Star as well with an equally cool and trippy video! I love these lyrics….... Dark star crashes, pouring its light into ashes. / Reason tatters, the forces tear loose from the axis. / Searchlight casting for faults in the clouds of delusion. / Shall we go, you and I while we can / Through the transitive nightfall of diamonds? Mirror shatters in formless reflections of matter. / Glass hand dissolving to ice petal flowers revolving. / Lady in velvet recedes in the nights of good-bye. / Shall we go, you and I while we can / Through the transitive nightfall of diamonds?
