Looking from Portarlington on the Bellarine Peninsula over farm lands and canola fields toward the You Yangs State Park, fine misty rain adds a glow to the setting sun.
Harvested crop at Coulstoun Lakes Qld. Chased that storm over those mountains and ended up bogged to the axles.
Australia…in…Summer.
Kansas Sunflower crops
A lowering sun shows the true colour of these nearly ready crops as a rain cloud tries to gain enough strength to unload the moisture collected during the warm day. No it didn’t rain. Southern Mallee Australia
I finally found the tractor I have been looking for. I saw this old antique from the road and thankfully had my camera in tow. I braved the 3 feet of snow and frigid Newfoundland winds but I finally got my shot I’d been waiting to get. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / /

Fortunately there was a bus stop in the layby (see map above) that I could pull in to and stood up on the door frame of the car to see over the fence. Fortunately the clouds were just right as I was driving past.

Straw bales in an English field, just before the storm broke.
Taken a few miles east of Leicester, near Allexton. Its that time in the UK, just before the wheat gets harvested – heavy heads beginning to nod gently under the weight of the grain, and the weather unable to decide whether it is summer or not, threatening to flatten the crop, just it is ready. Leicestershire is full of distant horizons like this, and the Barley is all but in now, much of the ground already having been put under the plough in readiness for the next crop.
An old piece of abandoned farm equipment sits in a field. No longer needed to bring in the harvest it now only watches over the fields. / / More in this series: / / / / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography

This photograph was captured in the late fall on a very windy, cold, overcast day. The sun was just breaking through in the far off distance but subdued light gave the foreground a more melancholy feeling. Looking at this print transports me immediately back to this beautiful location. However, I just can’t help trying to envision all of the people who had called this house their home over the last century. This photo was taken handheld with a Canon EOS DSLR / EF 28-70mm f/2.8L lens at 58mm focal length, f/11 at 1/500 sec. The same view, taken in mid-summer Your comments are always welcome! © 2009 Gene Walls All copyright and reproduction rights are retained by the artist. Location: Rockbank Victoria Australia Remains of the Day Ghost at the gate, / Why don’t we go / Over the lay of the land? / Memories fade, / But I can feel them / Wade through the sun / And the shade. Who owns the hills and lakes / When they’re just a thought, / Remains of the day? / See how the landscape changed / Till it’s gone, it’s lost; / Surely you know the way. Glossy and glazed, / Summer’s sweet hold / Carries us far and away. / Lost in a haze, / Green and golden / Out in the fields / Where we played. Who owns the hills and lakes / When they’re just a thought, / Remains of the day? / See how the landscape changed / Till it’s gone, it’s lost; / Surely you know the way. Can’t go home again; / I close my eyes and / Follow the path / To the place. / Keeping it safe, / I can be there / Lost in a world / Time erased. Who owns the hills and lakes / When they’re just a thought, / Remains of the day? / See how the landscape changed / Till it’s gone, it’s lost; / Surely you know the way. Blood Ruby

Sunflowers near Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
This evening I revisited this abandoned farmhouse in Pennsylvania Amish farm country, one more time. It was raining and becoming very foggy, but that only added to the incredible charm that I saw in this mysterious setting. I have photographed this unique location in every season and under many different weather conditions. I am trying to create a definitive record this very unusual place, focusing on the way it looks in different light and climatic conditions. This photograph was taken east of Clarkstown, Pennsylvania, from the junction of two dirt country roads, Upper Bartlow Road and Ridge Lane. More to follow… Eco-Thought • Wise use of our dwindling farmland is essential to the health of earth’s ecology. This is an Amish farm, where there is never any waste of nature’s gifts! Due to their religious beliefs, there is no electricity or motorized equipment used here at all. This is as “GREEN” as human beings can possibly be! Obviously, we cannot all live this way, but if we use this ideal as our reference, maybe we could all be a little smarter in the way we use our resources. This photo was just taken with a Canon EOS 10D camera body using a Canon EF 35-350mm f/3.5-5.6L zoom lens set to 110mm. The shutter speed was 3/4 of a second at f/5.6. The camera’s ISO was set to 100. A Manfrotto tripod was used with a remote shutter release cable. FEATURED In “The World As We See It…” FEATURED In “Earth Keepers”
