Rio de Janeiro, Estado do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, South America A view of Rio de Janeiro from Pao de Acucar right after sunset looking over the bay and beach of Botofago. Corvocado is visible in the far distance and the brightly glowing star like shape on at the top is the famous statue of Cristo Redentor. / / Some of my other work: / / / © Kuntal Daftary
A panoramic view of Rio de Janeiro from Corcovado overlooking Sugar Loaf. The weather was somewhat cloudy and foggy when I took the shot, and I love the way how the landline across the bay recedes in the fog. / / Some of my other work: / / / © Kuntal Daftary

Sangre De Cristo (Blood of Christ) Mountain range, Mt Blanca peak, 14,000 ft., this is the western slope
Taken in 2004 in the beautiful farming community of Westcliffe, Colorado, at the foot of the majestic Sangre de Cristo Mountain range. This splendid restored old barn sat on a 160-acre ranch owned by our Georgia neighbors, the Irwins. Westcliffe sits adjacent to the historic mining town of Silver Cliff and both are at approximately 8000 feet in elevation. The sister towns are surrounded by more than one mountain range. To the west are the Sangre de Cristos at 14,000 feet in height. The Wet Mountains, Collegiate Mountains, and Spanish Peaks are respectively east, north, and south. You can’t beat the spectacular views! This is a winter view of the Irwin Barn. Please don’t copy or download this image. Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer), is a statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, located at the peak of the Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park overlooking the city. It is the tallest of its kind in the world. It is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone. A symbol of Christianity, the statue has become an icon of Rio and Brazil. Photograph of Passion Flower taken 13 May 2009. Information courtesy of Wikipedia here The passion flowers or passion vines (Passiflora) are a genus of about 500 species of flowering plants, the namesakes of the family Passifloraceae. They are mostly vines, with some being shrubs, and a few species being herbaceous. For information about the fruit of the passiflora plant, see passionfruit. The monotypic genus Hollrungia seems to be inseparable from Passiflora, but further study is needed. Popularly, passionflowers and especially passionfruit are frequently used with sexual or romantic innuendo, giving rise to such uses as a one-time soft drink named Purple Passion. The “Passion” in “passion flower” does not refer to sex and love however, but to the passion of Jesus Christ. In the 15th and 16th centuries, Spanish Christian missionaries adopted the unique physical structures of this plant, particularly the numbers of its various flower parts, as symbols of the last days of Jesus Christ and especially the Crucifixion. The flower has been given names related to this symbolism throughout Europe since that time. In Spain, it is known as espina de Cristo (“Christ’s Thorn”). Old German names are Christus-Krone (“Christ’s Crown”), Christus-Strauss (“Christ’s Bouquet”, Dorn-Krone (“Crown of Thorns”), Jesus-Leiden (“Jesus’ Passion”), Marter (“Passion” or Muttergottes-Stern (“Mother of God’s Star”. Outside the Christian heartland, the regularly-shaped flowers have reminded people of the face of a clock; in Israel they are known as “clock-flower” (שעונית), and in Japan they are called tokeisō (時計草, “clock plant”). In Hawaiian, they are called lilikoʻi; lī is a string used for tying fabric together, such as a shoelace, and liko means “to spring forth leaves”. In northern Peru and Bolivia, the banana passionfruits are known as tumbos. This is one possible source of the name of the Tumbes Region of Peru.

We took a drive today to Westcliffe, a beautiful little mountain town about an hour from Pueblo. This is mostly farming and ranch lands, and you can drive for miles without seeing another car. ” As Is” Straight from the camera Canon Rebel XS 24-85mm focal length 85mm f4 ISO 200 Featured in Happy Haven July 2009
This was taken 3/17/09 near the top of Phantom Canyon Drive, approaching Victor, Colorado. Even with the aspens bare and the grass brown, the beauty of the Colorado Landscape is breath taking.
