A few days ago, I was so pleased to get a Calendar in my hot little hands – and I must say, I was most impressed. With such a great layout, and plenty of room to write, these calendars burst with more than you first expect! Each page subtly shows the title of the piece, and with the same quality stock of the posters All this has prompted me to put together a Calendar of my own, drawing a bit of inspiration all the great white space on offer from the Calendars: / Much love and date keeping, /

We have certainly had a gamut of seasons this month, all we needed was snow. / It started so well, the wet winter had provided the ground with enough water to produce a wonderful display of flowers and herbage. Fattened sheep and Nature at her very best, and then somehow we fell into a heatwave breaking all previous ones that went before that lasted more than two weeks. Thank goodness I walked around with the camera on several occasions earlier in the month and took photos. This week with two days rated Catastrophic was the last straw and what was once a green and floral delight is now burnt, dry and crisp. Dorothea Mackeller with her well known poem ‘My Country’ certainly had it right. Today it is raining,(thank goodness) we helped the neighbour with five Ute loads of baled hay the early morning of 43 degree heat. At 10 a.m. we just had to stop, I had the easy job of driving across the paddocks, the bales were in the furthest! The two men had cleared the shed out and brought one load before they called for my help. The share farmer baled 400 and was to roll the rest for himself and he did that on Tuesday afternoon and it was hot and humid. Wed dawned clear and HOT Frank only had the two of us to help and we did what we could almost 200 bales. Now the rest is all wet. It’ll dry and have to be turned a few times and won’t be as good but Frank is used to disappointments in life. When you get to be over 70 you learn to take life as it comes. / Yesterday the New Holland honey eaters warned us that we had a snake or lizard on the back patio, it was right opposite the french window (it was open) on top of patio wall. I slipped out and carefully walked forward, Oh my a large red bellied black snake. I indicated for my camera and Leon came out and passed it to me. The snake was actually digging itself into a hole right behind the water tap I use every day to fill the bird baths. The New Hollands have warned us on several occasions and it is usually a snake when they get really agitated. I am usually feeling annoyed with them because they boss all other birds away when they are nesting. Our first pair of blue wrens stood up to them and are still with us and now have one female chick. We hope it is the beginning of many more to delight us through the windows.
