Ever dreamed of sneaking away to a quiet, tranquil spot…lush vegetation, hearing the sounds of the forest and spending the day relaxing, reading a good book and having the most yummy picnic? / Well here is a little oasis I created. It looks a lot like an area of New Zealand called the Marlborough Sounds. What childhood memories are made of. The old bach (or crib)...simple holiday home with comfortable but basic living conditions. Getting away from the rat race.

This handle is on the door to an old corn crib on the back of our property. It caught my eye while walking the dog.
this maryland state school housed children with mental and physical disabilities for many years until a landmark investigation discovered unbelievable amounts of mistreatment, patients deaths and other atrocities, and the center was eventually shut down. the dark basement of this building contained rows of rusted large cribs meant for older children- probably adolescent age- silently rusting and aging in the dark. this one particular crib had a tattered and yellowed sheet draped over its side, swaying in the cool breeze.
This is my granddaughter’s foot. She was napping in her crib. Shot with Nikon D40 / Flash: Used / Focal Length: 14.9mm / Exposure Time: 0.025s (1/40) / Aperture: f/2.8 / ISO: 100
This is the newest addition to our family. My nephew Joseph. Born on Feb 4th. Tonight was the first time I had met the little guy and I was so pleased I had my camera with me. I have tons of shots of Joseph and I plan to post a series of shots. Hope you like them
sepia toned version of a previous The corn crib at the Tipton place is an example of a double pen corn crib, larger than average, and having a driveway through the center. This not only provided a way to conveniently unload the wagon but allowed for extra air to flow through the crib. The hewn log sides were left with open spaces to allow air to circulate through the corn, both allowing it to dry initially and helping it to stay dry…The roofing is known as shakes, which are wooden shingles usually split from leftover parts of oak logs ….Behind the crib is the edge of a cantalever barn unique to this part of the country……This shot was taken on Cades Cove Loop Road in The Great Smoky Mountain National Park.
The Enloe-Floyd Barn is located at The Mountain Farm Museum on U.S. 441 adjacent to the National Park’s Oconaluftee Visitor Center, two miles north of Cherokee. The site is open year-round The barn is the only museum building original to the site. It was part of the Joseph Enloe farm. The Enloe house, built in the 1880s, stood on the site now occupied by the Oconaluftee Visitor Center. In 1917 the Enloes sold their farm to the Floyds, a neighboring family. When the museum opened, the barn was initially left on its original site, about 30 yards from the present-day Visitor Center. It was moved to its current location within the museum complex in 1960. Fifty feet wide and 60 feet long with a “shotgun” opening down the middle, the structure has several stalls and storage areas on each side of the long “hallway.” Upstairs there is a vast hayloft large enough to store a 2,500 square foot suburban home. Thought to be a “Drover’s barn” it is similar to the cantilevered barn in having a large, overhanging, frame loft for hay storage In this case, the loft is supported by log piers. This structure is much bigger than most barns, for it served as a “cattle hotel”, a place where farmers could stable their herds for a night as they drove them off the mountains to market
This was taken a few years back when Trinity was a baby & still slept in a crib. When she wasn’t in it the kittens were! It was cute! =) /
Crib Goch is a knife-edged arête in the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales The highest point on the arête is 923 m above sea level. A path leads over the arête and three rock-pinnacles to a grassy col at Bwlch Coch. This first part of the ridge is very exposed and serious, having resulted in several fatalities. From the col the ridge rises again, joining the main Snowdon ridge via the sister peak Garnedd Ugain in the west. On Saturday 13th September I achieved the summit of Snowdon for the third time. This time by the most difficult route climbing up to, and across, Crib Goch. Then climbing to the summit of Garnedd Ugain before the easy walk from there to Snowdons summit. This is a view looking down to the Pyg Track which I think is about 800 feet down. It’s the opposite side to the sheer drop shown on ‘Crib Goch’ but is still steep enough. As you can see if you go down from the ridge itself the slope becomes shale which is extremely dangerous to try and cross. Although keeping to the top of the ridge itself is very scary the rock is secure, even if it’ means either looking at the 800ft drop one side or over the ridge at the 1200ft drop the other side. It’s certainly not something I would like to try if the weather isn’t very good.

This is a view from Garnedd Ugain with Crib Goch just visable on the left. The summit of Garnedd Ugain is only slightly lower than Snowdon itself and the walk from here to Snowdons summit is easy. While Snowdon is always crowded this summit was very quiet, with most people crossing Crib Goch having passed a good while before. The lake of Glaslyn, which lies at the foot of Snowdon, can be seen in the shadows bottom right and the lake in the centre of the picture is Llyn Llydaw. While crossing Crib Goch I seriously questioned my sanity in doing this route. When I got here and saw the views it was definitely worth the effort.

Little babies feet going pitter patter. Thought it would be a cute shirt for mommies to be. :o)
This is an example of a Double Pen Drive Through Barn, they were a little more prevalent than the cantilever barn in East Tennessee. This design provided an out of the weather area to fork hay into the loft, stalls for the livestock, and a dry place for equipment. Two men could work each side from a wagon in the middle when putting up hay, cutting the time used in dealing with the hay. This barn is located in the Cable Mill Visitor Center Area of Cades Cove, Great Smoky Mountain National Park

One of a series of photos taken at the old Berglund farm in Afton, Minnesota. It is a Century farm dating back to the 1880’s.
One of Ben’s mega walks on Snowdon. / This is the best route up Snowdon but also most dangerous. Quite a bit of low cloud. Coch is the Welsh for red as the rocks here are ruddy. / Stylized with Photoshop
