Not polished and painted like aging Hollywood divas; but bearing the sags and scars of their natural ages. Most of them are beyond rehabilitation, now. Covered bridges have a very long and revered history in the United States of America. These, once purely utilitarian, stream crossing structures are now recognized as the true works of art that they truly are! The historical and artistic value of each of these few remaining covered bridges is beyond measure, especially to those who fully appreciate their beauty and significance. The covered bridges featured on these pages were all photographed in the north central region of Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania still has the greatest number of these unique structures, more than any other state in the country. The vast majority of historic bridges have been lost to floods or deterioration.
