living wild above the village of Saas Fee, a wonderful place in the Swiss Alps, this little marmot enjoys a piece of carrot to gain enough weight for the long winter sleep.
This cloudless sulphur on a sprig of flowers goes nicely with Margaret Wise Brown’s prayer for “small things that have no words.”

This is an abstact interpretation of the sorts of weird creatures that float around near the black smokers of the deep blue as reported on Catalyst on the ABC. It may not be realistic but it is what inspired my drawing which has over 50 elements. Done on Windsor&Newton Black Cartridge drawing paper A3sized 140gsm and was drawn 2006/07 with an early set of gel pens (purple, peppermint, silver & pink). Jelly Belly / Ocean Motion / Round Mound / Gel Bell Thanks to RB for featuring my drawing on the home page, so honoured. As I do not have access to this size paper very often I only allow myself to to do a few pages at a time as a treat.

“Flight” Photography & Artwork / by Holly Kempe © A pelican with outstretched wings flying into the last light of day over a darkened coastline. Alva Beach, Queensland. “To stand at the edge of the sea, to sense the ebb and flow of the tides, to feel the breath of a mist moving over a great salt marsh, to watch the flight of shore birds that have swept up and down the surf lines of the continents for untold thousands of years, to see the running of the old eels and the young shad to the sea, is to have knowledge of things that are as nearly eternal as any earthly life can be.” / ~Rachel Carson

The second in a two part series of staged shots of unusual and very textural seashells. I arranged the shells on two pieces of matt black sketch paper to photograph them and they are untouched captures.
I must admit that out of all of the pictures I’ve taken of this particularly handsome fellow…this is one of my personal favorites! I, in particular like the composition! I hope you like it too! Smiles Leilani Perdido Key, Florida USA

There are more than 500 million domestic cats in the world, with 33 different breeds. The American cat population reached nearly 68 million in 1996. American Demographics magazine estimates that’s about 200 million kitty yawns per hour and a whopping 425 million catnaps each day!

Each morning that we awaken to the wonders that each new day brings, the wonders never cease to inspire gratitude… / During the past three winters here at Wind River Ranch, we’ve been blessed to witness the regal beauty of several eagles making our space their own residence as well. Watching them fishing for Chinook Salmon and Trout along the Naches River is poetry in motion and then there are the various species that seemingly get along and share territory. We have golden eagles and bald eagles as regular winter visitors here, besides so many other raptor species. / This bald eagle is perched in what my husband and I call the “Message Tree”, which sits between our cabin and the river. He didn’t seem to mind my coming outside (this time) to take a few shots. As is, other than cropping. / “Great wings outstretched in the wide skies, the eagle soars, majestic, bold – my heart cries out to the wise sky-traveler. He hears my plea. Illumination and truth come to me as his blessing.” DJ Conway
