I took a series of photos of this Yellow-Crowned Night Heron as it ate this crawfish for breakfast. At first, I thought it was just playing with the crawfish as it kept throwing it around and shaking it in its beak. Then, my son helped me realize what it was doing—breaking off the pointed, jagged claws and feelers that would have made for a lot of discomfort going down. By the time the heron swallowed the crawfish, all its sharp-edged parts had been snapped off! Pretty clever! This photo was taken at the rookery/bird sanctuary at Lake Martin in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana.

Y is for Yellow-Crowned Night Heron, and Y is for Yolanda, Yola, Yves, Yvette, York, Yuri, and Yvonne, but most of all YOU! Y is for anybody who’s got a youthful and yummy disposition and makes you want to yell, YIPPEE! Someone’s who’s YOURS! By the way, this Yellow-Crowned Night Heron is eating a yummy crawfish; I caught it in mid-air before descending into the heron’s gullet!

The actual name of the waterfall in this photo is Moose Falls. At the time, I thought it was Crawfish Falls. I liked the name Crawfish better, so I stuck with it. This is near the South entrance of Yellowstone National Park.

This picture is a bowl of crawfish on a chair that looks like one of my grandmother’s old chairs that she made. The colors bring warm feelings and the chair with the crawfish brings a sense of being home.
