I had a lovely morning, when I woke to find I’d sold 5 cards to my friend Karen Cook who photographs the most consistently exquisite flower studies I’ve ever seen in my life….....You have got to see her stuff….please visit Karen’s bubble, you will be moved….ssssoooooo lovely they are! Thank you so much Karen, I am sooooooo grateful and happy today!!! Here are the cards x 5 that Karen chose from my portfolio today! / Sadako’s Wish / This is a special one, with a story attached about Sadako…please read about her if you haven’t already heard about her before, Mui-Ling another friend here on the bubble actually makes exquisite origami miniatures, and was influenced in Grade 5 when she heard the story of Sadako also…...Sadako’s Wish is from my / Mi & Yuu / I once saw an image of a little asian boy standing in one of these tubs using a stick as an oar, apparently children travel and catch fish and ducks this way. mi & Yuu is from my / Fuschia / Fuschia is fun!!! and from my / Asian Spice / Asian Spice is sweet! and from my / Fishing Mates / Fishing Mates is a little different, using muted tones, it was one of the best fun times making a painting…I used a colour chart from a Dulux Paint Guide to choose my colours….i cut up all the little squares and put them in a clear box and pull out colours to help me choose a palette, i love doing this…....Fishing Mates is also from my

So as I get bubblemail pouring in my inbox daily, I sometimes visit the group which the bubblemail is geared towards, and I got a surprise to see one of my pieces featured in the group for the bubblemail I just read! Born from the Pinky is featured in the Stillness Speaks group, yay! Big Thanks to Beth Lambert for featuring my image :) I just had to do this (again!). Well this time it’s not like there was a bunch of my work grouped together coincidentally, but I just thought it was ironic that the photo above mine was also a black and white photo of fingers :P.

  • Origami Passion
    by Mui-Ling Teh

The story of my developing passion for origami: ”!http://images-2.redbubble.com/img/art/size:large/view:main/1006170-1-i-hope-god-like…

The story of my developing passion for origami: Back in elementary school my teacher read to our class the story of “Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes”. While Sadako Sasaki was in the hospital, friends and family saved scraps of paper for her to fold paper cranes out of. In one particular moment of the story, Sadako’s mother paid a visit and gave Sadako a piece of paper which her sister saved for her. Sadako takes the paper and says “Mmmm, smells like candy. I hope God likes chocolate”. Everyone laughed including Sadako. After being read that story I went through an origami obsession; I saved bits of paper and candy wrappers, then did origami out of them. Candy wrappers were often rectangular, so I’d cut the biggest square I could out of them and fold candy wrapper cranes. Afterwards I’d make smaller cranes from the left over bits of the candy wrappers, and then attempt to make even smaller cranes from the leftovers of the leftover. As time passed I have enjoyed folding more origami apart from cranes; including flowers, animals ornaments etc. I have recently come back to my childhood passion of folding tiny cranes and attempted to fold the smallest cranes I possibly could, and have started doing other forms of miniature origami. As I hold my creation, I feel like a God; I am the creator; I’ve created a life form so sharp and vulnerable in comparison to my hand. We can only understand size, fragility and significance when we compare two things. When we think, for example, how big the world is, we’re like tiny specks of sand, or even atoms, to the eyes of a God holding the earth in his palm. /

  • A Beautiful Day

On weekends I tend to stay up late nights and sleep in the next day. As a result, I am often reluctant to come out of bed at the start of new week. I thought I would have had an even harder time waking up today because of the long weekend; not to mention the fireworks going off last night. But it was the opposite. For the first time the sun was shining brightly when I woke up. I wake up at 7am, and during the winter it would still be dark at that time so I’d still feel like sleeping, but this morning was beuatiful. So I arrive at the office 15 minutes early, and killed the time by going onto Redbubble; smiled as I read a lovely bubblemail, and then looked at what’s been going on in the activity monitor: Reply to your comment, Comment on your work, New journal entry, New work, New work, New work, Reply to your Comment, New Work, Featured Work…..... Come Again?! What a way to make a beautiful day even brighter; my third feature! But this was a bit different, the first two I was never notified about it; I just discovered them myself among the featured works in the groups; maybe this feature notification is something new; although there is no tab in the activity monitor regarding this. Born from the Hand is featured in the Object Studies & Concepts . My second feature was also for the same piece but in a different group (My first (discovered) feature was Born from the Pinky). Paper cranes are good luck… “Born from the Hand” has always been at the top in terms of views and favorites… until last weekend when Sunset with Blue Trees got a sudden increase in favorites, but it only beats “Born from the Hand” by 1. Born from the Hand still has the most views.

Some of you may remember this image For Karin Taylor. I took this picture the day I read Karin Taylor’s journal about her son’s friend Mitchell who was very sick, and many Redbubblers prayed for him. Karin has shown me continuous kindness and support here on RB. She comments my work very often and I could never forget how she has responded so well to my previous journals months ago where I asked for advice: Seeking feedback. Would people buy these? / Origami Passion I prayed for Karin and Mitchell and brought out these cranes saying to myself “I wish Mitchell will be well” with each one I brought out. Upon posting the image more people joined in to pray for Karin and Mitchell, and Karin asked me to make it available for sale so that she could give it to Mitchell as a get well card. Karin has just received that card, however Mitchell has been long out of the hospital now; he has recovered miraculously fast, and it is thanks many prayers. I’d like to thank everyone who commented on “For Karin Taylor” and joined me and many other bubblers in wishing her and Mitchell well. You can see the card in the buyer’s booth, and please have a look at Karin’s lovely work! Though I believe many people watching me know her already. Karin Taylor

So there was all that hassle with the visa application (glad it’s over and now waiting for it to be approved), and the weather has been pretty dull lately. Today at work I was sooo bored… The project I was on had reached a stage where we can’t really do anything until we hear back from clients, so I spent the morning looking through the drawings and doing small fixes. We went out for lunch because tomorrow is a co-worker’s last day. When we finished eating, people were just chatting, and I went to use the washroom. When I went back to the table everyone had already left (how nice… T_T ). So I head back to the office, and went up the stairs. Upon reaching the 5th floor where our office is, I opened the door and saw people just coming it (they used the elevator); wow I actually caught up to them. They see me and go “Oh there you are; we were all going ‘where did Mui-Ling go?’ Where were you?” “I was in the washroom; WHY DID YOU LEAVE WITHOUT ME? ! ? !” and that was followed by “We’re sorry”, “I was right! She was in the washroom!”, “Ah, that was hilarious” (not in any particular order…) Was still checking through the drawings; then near the end of the day I’m moved to another project that has a deadline tomorrow… o _ o BUT moving onto a more exciting matter the Stillness Speaks group, which featured my “Born from the Pinky” long ago, added two more of my work to their featured art today! I love this group; being the type more comfortable presenting something through images than words, or sometimes finding difficulty describing my work because I created it by instinct – hence they may speak for themselves; it’s one of the ideal groups for me. Currently my featured group works are all origami cranes… Took a look at the new featured works in that group today; they’re all about hands. So I’ve been working for 5 months now, and will still be working for another 1-3 months. When I was doing my last internship in Japan, I was sad when it was over, and dreaded going back to school (especially for that semestre as it was rumored to be the most stressful; and for many other reasons). In Japan I worked for three months and spent a nice week visiting relatives afterwards. I was glad when the last school semestre ended (it was horrible!), and I was enjoying this new office; but 8 months is a long time… this time I’m looking more forward to school; plus I’ll be in Rome! (As long as the visa is approved). Well tomorrow is a busy day; and on Saturday I’ll be drawing the whole day for Drawing Day! Well as much as I can anyways; my dad is leaving for Beijing on Saturday, so I’ll be seeing him off, but before and after that, I’ll be drawing! Sunday I’ll be sleeping…
