Photographed in the Royal Botanic Gardens, Cranbourne “The Southern brown Bandicoot is listed as an endangered species nationally and a threatened species in three mainland states. Today, this species is now restricted to only one relatively secure site, the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne. Here, strategic management of a 250-hectare patch of remnant vegetation provides suitable habitat for the species. However, even this population is still relatively small, with limited genetic diversity, and potentially vulnerable to fire and disease.” – Mornington Peninsula and Western Port (MPWP) Biosphere Reserve

The roadside fire fighters all pitch in while the Country Fire Authority ( CFA) fire brigade is alerted. D300; Lens 80-200mm ED VR Nikkor / 82mm, 1/500s, f/8.0, ISO: 200
As luck would have it a water carrier truck came by and the operators used the tank water to try to put out the fire but to no avail.
The fire has got away from the local neighbours and passing car drivers who have jumped in to help .
