  • the team of scientists frantically search for the remains of the ufo, which was seen striking the water in a fairly shallow ocean trench.

  • “Yeeehaaa,” roared Jim. His face creased with laughter and he felt somewhat light-headed, even with the benefit of a pressure suit. He turned to Frankie at his side. “Woah! That dive gets me every time.” “Me too,” chortled Frankie, “although it’s the first time we’‘ve done it with invisibility off.” Frankie gently tweaked the single control column, levelling the, “Frisbee” over the Yarra. “What we are doing will change Earth for ever, Jim.” said Frankie grimly. All traces of the euphoria they had both felt at the end of the swoop, had evaporated like the fog over the Yarra. “Someone had to do it”, replied Jim softly. His eyes betraying a sadness, at odds with his clipped comment. They dipped lower and slowed, drifting silently forward about 100 metres above the dark waters, reflected like some giant metallic Krispy Kreme. They needed to be as visible as possible to the morning crowds. The time for pretending, misinformation and outright lies, was over. No-one could stop them now. Ever since the days of the USAF’s infamous “Project Blue Book”, cover up. There had been a small group of dissenters, effectively silenced, through means both fair and fowl. After secret and careful preparation, their time had come. They had finally decided to risk all and act. Frankie tweaked the controls and then let the craft settle into its auto landing function. They touched down near to the harbour entrance and within minutes, helicopters and fighter aircraft from the Australian Air force were buzzing overhead, like angry gnats ahead of a summer storm. The nervous and expectant crowds lined every vantage point and cameras, both official and private clicked and whirred away – capturing and sending information at light speed around the globe. The ramp lowered and the crowds hushed as the men walked slowly and deliberately down and towards the awaiting media. Jim grinned again, exposing row after row of very tiny, but very sharp teeth…

The most powerful computing and the applications that sit on it are taking us back to the past. I am particularly thinking about the emergence of micro-audiences and how this is very similar to what existed prior to the advent of mass communication. Before Edison invented the phonograph, people created the music they listened to and shared it with people they knew. In a similar way, most decorative arts were produced and shared locally. If you wanted to decorate your mantelpiece you had better start whittling away. Being creative in this pre-industrial world was something you did rather than something you bought. Strangely, this is re-emerging. The Internet is re-enabling micro-communities, but based on interest rather than geography. Singers and artists can create for small audiences from all over the world. This is part of a larger trend. Slow food is challenging industrialized fast food. The craft movement is resisting mass production. Bloggers are taking on mass media and TV is losing out to online video. I cannot help but feel this is a good thing. It feels to me like us reclaiming part of our humanity that we should never have let go. Martin (aka Pilgrim)

  • [portrait taken in Natural Light] : 16/11/2008 [AS IS] I was walking from one village to the next, in Remote Nigeria. one of the team noticed this young girl following us for some time. I stopped and spoke to her through an interpretor. We learned that she was 13 years old and caring for three younger Sisters. As she told us here story, I Felt compelled to return to her village. There we met her three younger sisters in the most extreme poverty. Both Parents were dead and no other living relatives. We spoke to the village Chief and the elders who pleaded with us to help the family. We did, as God lead us to and blessed her with clothing, and the following day we sent two of our field workers to meet with her and now they have a small regular income from our mission funds. UPDATE 5-8-2009. Mary is now at School. We pay her school fees adn her three younger sisters are well and happy. We need help with Susan, aged 9. She wants to go to school also. We need help with school fees, uniform adn text books. Can you help? will you Help? • With the global economy caught in the gravity of the financial crisis, it’s sad that programs like the Constellation Project will have a long wait before anything truly gets off the ground. / / NASA’s Constellation Project is set up to finish the International Space Station, retire the Shuttle Fleet and build a whole new fleet of space vehicles which will take us back to the Moon, then Mars and then the places beyond. / / But with Congressional limitations and funding cutbacks due to the financial crisis, as well as being stuck with a complicated and restrictive “go as you pay” finance structure it’s unlikely we’ll be seeing any groundbreaking manned space flights in the naughties. / / This image represents a fleeting memory of a childhood dream to see man explore our planets and then the stars beyond and it’s one of the few things as a child I looked up to America for. / / The universe is a big place and we’re yet to make it out of our solar system but without programs like the Constellation Project, man may never ever get to make another giant leap. / / DETAIL / / / /

  • Choice II is for those who love the light side of the spectrum. It takes on such a different feeling than the much darker original, The Choice / Love should never be a choice. While man attempts to recreate his universe through science, emulating God; at the core, each of us struggles with daily choices that eclipse logic. Are choices of the heart logical or divinely inspired, impetuous or practical, or do these rather define constraints of the mind? Should the heart always win over thought process, or does one inform the other? By our divine nature, women have a choice, to follow our heart, head, will, or spirit. Wrong or right, we exercise it. • Abnoba, goddess of the Black Forest and Danube Abnoba was a goddess of the Black Forest and Danube River, worshipped by Celtic Gauls, and later by Romans, as Diana Abnoba (goddess of the hunt). Abnoba is believed to mean fog or mist on the river. There are two alters in Roman baths in Badenweiler and Mühlenbach, Germany, respectively, inscribed with the name of “Diana Abnoba” (see below). Rome annexed Gaul in about 51 BC; and it’s conceivable that they attempted to merge gods and goddesses of the two civilizations. / ! I chose to represent Abnoba, because I have an affinity for the forest—to me a kind of sacred place, where trees whisper amongst themselves, their vocal chords, the wind. I love how nature’s cycle of life, and decay-giving life, again, is reduced to the obvious; even there on the forest floor; where I can see it, below my feet and hands, elbows, and curious eye. But to the Celtic Gauls, the forest was life, itself. It was the source of food—they hunted there; the source of firewood for warmth and cooking; for fresh water; and no doubt weapons. The forest was a shield, protecting them. How interesting to have a woman—a divine woman, no less, guarding these very precious resources—the Black Forest, the Danube River, and surrounding rivers and streams. What is it about a woman that would make her the best candidate for protecting the two resources that meant life or death to entire communities? I leave you to contemplate that. Hopefully “Abnoba, goddess of the Black Forest and Danube”, will inspire someone who sees it to become the protector of their own region’s rivers, woods, and creatures—great and small. They need us, as we need them. — Digital Work by F.A. Moore, June 23-24, 2009, in watercolor style; influenced by the art style of Pre-Raphaelites and Arts and Crafts movement. Special thanks to stock providers, the beautiful model from mizzd-stock, FantasyStock, idnurse41, CAStock, LucieG, Dragonic-Stock and wikipedia for 2 special images in the public domain. ABOUT THIS WORK: / I added a variety of creatures to illustrate the ease with which Abnoba must have related to them. Look closely and you will find that animals, birds, reptiles, and insects are all represented. Only fish are not represented. (Darn! forgot!) Information was a bit scarce on the animals that reside in the Black Forest region of Germany, except that there are the usual forest animals, including fox and big cats. The Sperlingskauz, a forest owl; and the Kolkrabe, a species of Raven, were specifically noted as being special to the region. I was lucky enough to find images of these two in the public domain on wikipedia images. Look for the Black Forest’s Sperlingskauz (owl) and the Kolkrabe (Raven) in the piece.
