Taken near Cradle Mountain Lodge, Tasmania.

This is a serene part of the world – Cradle Mountain, Tasmania. James has been harping on for some time now about the benefits of dawn photography … as a bit of a late riser I was sceptical. Well I’m a convert.

A fond childhood game.

Tiny water drop on the edge of a dry wilted rose.

From blue skies one day, to hiking in a cloud for the whole next one…this happened to be one of my best photography days though when late in the day, the cloud level lifted and gave some mood lighting. The peaks of Cradle Mountain shrouded in fog and the orange and red fagus looking their best due to the cold Autumny conditions.

The classic shot, good light this night – last shot of the evening, way after sunset. Never leave early no matter how hopeless you think the light might be.

After trekking the whole day in a cloud…as per a couple previous uploads…and having bumped into a couple keen photographers who were also braving the constant drizzle, I decided to wait around to see what would happen, long after seeing these other photographers heading back….I watched and waited from a nearby peak as the cloud layer slowly lifted at the end of the day revealing the lake below and the mountains their Autunmnal colors….it truly was a sight to behold, and to photograph..This was a big day, with a 03:00 start out and hike up in the dark to finally getting back down, again in darkness…but one of the most memorable days out I’ve ever had…Taken recently at Cradle Mountain ~ Van Diemens Land ~ Aus….

Panorama of 14 images and around 300 degrees fov….Taken from near Hansons Peak ~ Cradle Mountain N.P. ~ Tasmania ~ Aus. / A beautiful scene surrounded by the Autumnal tones of the Fagus. Taken late in the day when the cloud layer lifted and around the same time as a couple of single shots of this place I uploaded a short time ago. As always, I lugged my heavy pano head everywhere I went trekking. Often questioning whether it was worth it as it weighs down your pack considerably..I thought if there was any a time to use it, this was it..! clambering up over rocks to this vantage spot and fired off a few pans. Finally trekking back off the mountain in the dark but very happy with the days efforts….thanks for having a look and any comments…cheers, Rob. / ps, and yes, I’m getting towards the end of my Tas collection…finally..!! Still a few pans to work on from the Tasman though..

Wombat Pool, as it is called…I would have loved to have captured this place with more moody lighting, but tried to make the most of the bluebird day here..One of the many tarns and lakes around the Cradle Mountain area ~ Tas. ~ Aus..

Tiny baby cradled in his mother’s arm. “Orangutans are among our closest relatives in the animal kingdom. They share 97% of their genes with us, they are highly intelligent, thoughtful and inventive. They have a culture and aesthetic sense, and they resemble us in facial expression, gesture and many other ways. The red apes, which live only in Borneo and Sumatra, are far more “human” than human beings, and thus probably too good for this world. They are strong as oxen, but do not defend themselves against poachers or the loggers of the palm oil corporations – and are mercilessly slaughtered.” / The whole time I was in Singapore shooting the photos of Orangutans, the sky was white with smoke haze drifting across from Indonesia, where the little remaining rainforest supporting this critically endangered species is being utterly destroyed. Destroyed at such an inconceivable rate that Orangutans will be extinct in the wild by 2010. / Thank Goodness for men like Willie Smits.

This beautiful little fellow was one of a group growing on the end of a rotting stick. It is about 7.5mm across. / Found in Cradle Mountain National Park, Tasmania. Unfortunately this crop is not large enough to sell. Look for the full size image to follow.

This is Susan, drawn from life at an Art Event called “His and Hers”. 3 models, 6 artists, live music and readings, and an audience watching it all unfold. Fantastic! Susan was my muse that night, I kept shutting my eyes and letting the music of Madonna and the Flumes carry me, then a quick peek and let the line flow where it will. Pure Bliss.

Gustav Weindorfer first saw this valley in 1909. / In 1912 he started building his chalet “Waldeheim” / -meaning “forest home”. Essentially Australia’s / first “Eco” resort he hosted many guests / here to show early tourists the majestic wilderness. / The boathouse gives a great foreground to / Cradle Mountain.

Small trickle of water flowing down the face of the Cradle Mountain peaks…many of these join to form a waterfall flowing into the lakes far below…A nice glow from the late afternoon sun providing some fantastic contrasting colors here and topping off a great days hiking…thanks for looking..
