This is a serene part of the world – Cradle Mountain, Tasmania. James has been harping on for some time now about the benefits of dawn photography … as a bit of a late riser I was sceptical. Well I’m a convert.

Panorama of 14 images and around 300 degrees fov….Taken from near Hansons Peak ~ Cradle Mountain N.P. ~ Tasmania ~ Aus. / A beautiful scene surrounded by the Autumnal tones of the Fagus. Taken late in the day when the cloud layer lifted and around the same time as a couple of single shots of this place I uploaded a short time ago. As always, I lugged my heavy pano head everywhere I went trekking. Often questioning whether it was worth it as it weighs down your pack considerably..I thought if there was any a time to use it, this was it..! clambering up over rocks to this vantage spot and fired off a few pans. Finally trekking back off the mountain in the dark but very happy with the days efforts….thanks for having a look and any comments…cheers, Rob. / ps, and yes, I’m getting towards the end of my Tas collection…finally..!! Still a few pans to work on from the Tasman though..

This beautiful little fellow was one of a group growing on the end of a rotting stick. It is about 7.5mm across. / Found in Cradle Mountain National Park, Tasmania. Unfortunately this crop is not large enough to sell. Look for the full size image to follow.

Gustav Weindorfer first saw this valley in 1909. / In 1912 he started building his chalet “Waldeheim” / -meaning “forest home”. Essentially Australia’s / first “Eco” resort he hosted many guests / here to show early tourists the majestic wilderness. / The boathouse gives a great foreground to / Cradle Mountain.

I purposefully went to Cradle Mountain in Autumn to get the colours of the deciduous beech tree (northofagus gunnii. With the help of the morning light, I came away with this beautiful memory.

This qaint little boat house is located at Dove Lake in Cradle Mountain National Park. The water was partly frozen and added some interesting patterns in the water / /

Up at Cradle Mountain this weekend I remembered a phone conversation with a dear friend last year. Jon asked if, the next time we were up at Cradle, I could take a photo of the little river that goes underneath the bridge. I’m pretty sure this is the one ;) For you Jonny, with love. I had just one night at my favourite mountain, and arrived in pouring rain just as the night sky was closing in. The rain stopped as I entered the park and I had time for just a handful of images. one of the barns off the roaring fort auto trail, that belonged to the ogle family, you can get to this auto trail thru gatlinburg, tn, and it leads up into the great smoky mountains

I could have given you the standard run of the mill Cradle Mountain shot… I decided instead to go with this as the line of the mountain behind this boatshed was just sensational. And yes, that is the corner of Cradle Mountain itself on the far left hand side which I think balances the other mountain wonderfully.

Beautiful morning high up on Cradle Mountain ~ Tasmania. Beautiful but dam windy making longish exposures very tricky indeed..it wasn’t until the sun came up and I could get reasonable exposure times was when I could get some clear shots of this magnificent landscape….thanks for looking.

Artists Pool, as it is called…a much photographed spot in the Cradle Mountain N.P. Tas~Aus…. Much photographed but as you know, no 2 images are the same and the weather plays a big part in this….I had waited for hours in this area for the fog to lift to reveal the mountain range behind this scene as it is also quite spectacular with Little Horn looming behind these old, old pencil pines…well it didn’t really happen but somehow, without this, the scene is not complicated by extra elements and the focus remains on the tree’s themselves. I rather like it the way it is…thanks for any comments…cheers, Rob.
