Centuries of grime on an old colonial church in Leon, Nicaragua has helped create these wonderful textures and subtle colours.

Montage / A composite of an oil pastel drawing and images of the landscape worked in Photoshop with blending and adjustments tools to get the tonal renderings and contrasts. Cracked Earth / The land is parched and dry and the dog looks to the sky for life giving rain. At dusk the air is cooler, a welcome relief from the heat of the day. / / Australia is ravaged by drought and the skin of the earth cracks and rips open. The land suffers in an impoverished ecosystem, lost to its natural state of wild bush and wetlands forever. The clearing of land, the cultivation and the chemical overload have wreaked havoc. Still there is no rain.

Featured in Model Beginnings – 9/11/2009 / Featured in The Male Photographer – 02/12/2009 An image i assembled in photoshop. Here I took 5 photos of the model, and then cut the background, black and white, and then added strong contrast to really bring out the facial hair and send the light tones to white. I then cut strips out and put them together like so. I had the them of ‘Fractured Life’ in mind, to really illustrate how life is not perfect and there is always cracks within life.

Inspired by a few entries in the CD/Water droplet challenge and particularly my dear friend Donell, who told me to fry a CD… never done that before so I was curious to see how it would go… Fantastic – literally hours of fun with the patterns, cracks, colours and processing :o) Sony a350 w/ Sigma 70mm Macro lens – 1/320 sec at f/3.5, ISO 800. Shelly asked me to describe how this is done – it’s really quite easy. Take an old CD, this was an old CDR with the dark blue surface, drop it in the microwave label side down (along with a cup of water just by the side so you don’t screw your microwave) and give it about 3/4 seconds. Watch the sparks fly and the surface crackle :o) get the water dropper, a decent light source (window) and a tripod and away you go… literally hours of fun finding cool patterns and trying to get your droplets just right :)
