This was one of those days when I’d been out with my camera without a particular goal. I like to keep an open mind and open eyes when I go out for a walk or drive in the country and just see what presents itself in the way of a possible photograph. I was on my way home and driving past a series of very well-maintained farms when I passed this rather ramshackle place with the cows feeding in the late afternoon. The sun was still fairly high but they were standing in a circle of light under the trees and it really caught my eye.

Well I’ve been uploading some pretty and colourful images for the last week or so and now I’m going to post some more of my dark landscapes again. All of this series will be infrared film images taken a couple of years ago at a friends place in the Hunter Valley. This is the first one which till now I’ve called very uninspiringly hill 5…. now its been reinvented as big hill little cow….. hope you like it

The title is a line from William Blake’s poem, ” The book of Thel” and seemed to fit this scene from rural Yorkshire at the turn of summer into autumn, where the harvest roles on and the cattle feed on small fields left to grass.
